Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I’ve had a little more time lately to spend sometime on eBay. One of the things I stumbled upon last week was an authenticast Surrey in Cerulean Blue for only $30 (including shipping)!! Now that was a score! I then made an offer on a pink one that I found and that got accepted, too. Here are pics of both.
I was surprised that these have such good weight to them; they are about 1.5lbs. The one moving piece on both is the hood, which lifts (tilting up while the windshield tips back), but the straps must be removed from one side for this to happen.
The Blue one still has some fringe on one side, but a piece of the bumper is missing and a strap is broke:
This seller added a few customizations to this Struck Mini-Beep. It’s the first one I’ve seen for sale west of the Mississippi.

This Blue Tank model jeep is a kit that includes two electric motors. I guess it runs in a straight line, as I don’t see a remote? It’s currently priced at $23.80 (buy-it-now).

Glenn spotted this Struck designed Mini-Beep.
“Struck Kit 1944 Willys Army Jeep replica. Used in parades, goes 6 mph at full throttle. Looks just like the Jeep used in the MASH TV show. Made out of plywood and metal parts. 6 1/2 hp gas engine.”
UPDATE: This looks to have been an MPC model, as MPC created a variety of jeep-related models. One particular kit by MPC allowed for the creation of three different kinds of jeep: ! Hill Climbing Dune Buggy Jeep, A Stock Jeep, or a Service Station Jeep. Here’s an example of that model on eBay.

This model sold on eBay yesterday for $25. What I found interesting was the level of detail, from the Dauntless engine mounts, to the Canfield Push-Plate on the front, to the Meyer half-cab details.
This is a curious model. It looks like someone may have been trying to make a Willys MA.The grille and the double gauges make me think that. Just how ‘vintage’ it might be isn’t clear to me. It’s currently priced at $189.99. No description provided.

The Tribune newspaper out of Coshocton, Ohio, shared this photo and caption on the May 24, 1953. It shows three-year-old Terry Schley driving a model Jeepster his father built for him. It includes a feature that auto braked when the foot is lifted from the accelerator.
Bidding starts at $40 (down from $50). Though the illustration on the box suggests the is a slat grill MB, the grill in the box is the standard looking grille.

“Rare Chicago Kempro All Star Jeep Model Kit Wood. Condition is “Used”. Box has staining as shown. Appears complete but see photos and ask any questions. Box measures 14×6.”
Blaine shared this ‘toy’ jeep he saw on Collectors Weekly. Neither of us had seen it before, but a commenter on that site said it was an “Art Decor piece likely sold at Hobby Lobby.”
“It’s a vintage Jeep Tin Toy that I recently bought. The writing on the hood is “U.S.A. 252678548”. It measures about 11 1/2 inches long, about 4 inches tall, and about 5 inches wide. On the bottom, it has “52” stamped on it. On the hood, it has a star.”
This combo sold on eBay for $62.89. It features what appears to be a Leddy Willys MA model jeep + a built Ford GPA (possibly a Leddy model also). I was about to make a $110 bid to buy both just before the auction ended, but then I noticed the model box had no top. I thought that hurt the value, so declined to bid. I may regret that as the chances of finding another Leddy MA model probably isn’t very good.
This rare Megow wood model US Army jeep is currently priced at $40.

This Shriner’s jeep has a Willys MA look to it, though the seller presents no evidence that this was a Shriner’s jeep, it’s the right size for one.
“Up for sale Shriner parade kart, go kart. This is a extremely rare Shriner kart. The only other one that I know of is in a museum in South Dakota. I be leave this Willys Jeep is from the early 1950s. The Jeep is mostly original with the exception of newer tires, rims, upholstery, paint, carpet, and engine. The engine has never had gas or oil in it. Everything appears to be in working order.”

Blaine spotted an unusual toy on Craigslist. Anyone recognize this wooden jeep? It seems to be missing the steering wheel and a windshield. It’s probably a one-off, but figured I’d check.

“CUSTOM HAND MADE CRAFTED WOOD WILLY’S JEEP CJ WRANGLER TOY W TRAILER vintage”
There are two different project jeep designs described in the December 1945 issue of Popular Science, pages 162-166. The simpler one was designed by Herbert Pfister of New York City, while the second was designed by H. A. Machlan of El Campo, Texas.
This pair of wood jeeps has a buy-it-now price of $27, plus $8.25 shipping. They are stamped 2013, so they aren’t very old.

This unusual poster for a Revell radio jeep and trailer is an unusual find. This 1957 poster is pretty cheap compared to the 1956 version of the model, which is on eBay for $225.

History of this item: I recently purchased a collection of model related items from a local auction house. They would only tell me that the original owner was a former Revell employee, unfortunately the auction company would not disclose any names or information about the consignor of the collection. The majority of this collection is related to the 1950s Revell models, but there are some items from many other companies. I have been advised by several collectors that this person was most likely a Revell Co. Representative and he would have travelled to Toy Fairs & Industry Trade Shows of the time, where he would have promoted Revell Products and also acquired advertisements from other companies. “This replica Jeep is 3/4 scale model loosely based on an early 40’s Willy’s Jeep. I built it for a prop for kids to play on at Vacation Bible School. The frame and body are wood construction plenty sturdy for kids (and small adults!) to sit in / play on. Tires are made of styrofoam, plastic lids, and irrigation drain pipe. No, it does not roll; it is stationary, although with a some imagination and skill you could modify it. There are headlights and marker lights in front connected to a 12v battery and switch in the dash.
Would love to keep it, but don’t have the space for it. Could be for a kid’s playroom, or maybe a Jeep dealer could use it for a kid space!”
