(02/10/2011) This must be painted Civil Service Yellow. Might not be a bad price for a frame off restoration.
“FRAME OFF RESTORE , Civil Service Jeep from Estacada school district , 26,130 miles , warn overdrive , new 11″ brakes , New M-M front hubs , Thousands spent , this is being pulled for sale from my personal car collection”
There is a pic, but it is awfully tiny.

This looks pretty good. The seller also has a 2nd M-38 and a M-38A1 for sale.
“Title says 1942. This jeep runs and drives but has some minor body needs. Has a M38 artic top with data plates. Starts right up. Has L head engine and floating rearend. Has the heavy duty frame that CJ2 and 3A’s do not have. The grille is from a 3A and has been converted to 12 volts. Great 3A project with heavy duty front and rear bumpers that both have ball hitches. Could use a tune up. But she runs. I believe its a 52 or 53? M38’s were actually heavy duty 3A’s made for punishment. Only made 3 years 51, 52, and again in 55.
Also have a 2nd M38 with the correct grille and other parts for sale. It has a 302 that runs but neeeds body work and master brake cylinder work. Its title says 43 and its $1600 with the artic top with M38 data tags. This is a flat fender unlike the M38A1 which is the first round fender.
Have one of those [M-38a1] for sale 90% restored to military use, for $5500 .”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000
(09/21/2009) It sounds like it doesn’t run. Ok, it doesn’t look like it runs either …
“Ford 289 V-8 Engine, refinished orignal seats, needs wiring harness; Replaced steering system with 3/4 inch bars; Tow bar in excellent condition; ”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $12,000.
This is interesting. The seller says this is an unrestored M-38 in great condition. If accurate, this might be an unusual find if you want a M-38.
“Up for sale is a 1952 Willys M38 Army jeep. Looks and runs good. Tires are new. No rust however certain parts are pitted. Willys flathead 4cyl engine original to the jeep, T90 trans, 4wd. This is a rare untouched, unrestored find. It came straight from the fire dept and runs very good. Shifts fine, Steers tight, stops as it should and does not leak any oil. It has been converted to 12 volt by the fire dept and has never been modified or in civilian hands untill recently. I have the original gov. release form. This jeep also has the original spring seat cushions.
the last photo is a picture of my yard, if you buy and pay you will recieve. Local pickup only however I can help with shipping to 48 states and overseas.”
Wolfgang lives in Germany and has a great looking M-38. But, I think that travel trailer is equally cool. It was built in Belgium in 1977 and the model is a Coral T3.
BTW Wolfgang is looking for a Bell Crank. Anyone have an extra one? Just email me at d@ewillys.com.
Here’s the shot of the trailer:
Wolfgang and some friends were out jeeping recently. As you can see, he’s not afraid to get it dirty, either.
I thought this was a really cool shot. They are crossing a river on a small ferry. The town in the background looks so picturesque!
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5000.
(01/27/2011) This looks very good, though needs work of some type. The body appears to be a M-38.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $35,750.
Bill spotted this … as he suggested, sit down …. the auction estimate was $12,000 – $17,000 which in itself is an inflated price in my opinion. However, this past weekend this franken jeep sold for $35,750.
“63 hp, 134.2 cu. in. flathead four-cylinder engine, Carter carburetor, three-speed manual gearbox with low-range, four-wheel drive with live axles front and rear with semi-elliptic leaf springs, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 80″
– From the Bill Jacobs Collection
– Only 578 miles since total nut-and-bolt restoration
– Original Forest Service Jeep with shovel and axe included
– 4WD with low range, trailer hitch, full gauge package
The 1946 Jeep offered here is beautifully finished in white. It was reportedly the property of the US Forest Service and carries the appropriate axe and shovel. It was the subject of an extremely detailed two-year restoration in 2001 by Jim Neirynck of Macomb Township, Michigan.”
This might make a good restoration project if the seller’s description is accurate.
“This is a PROJECT Jeep from the Korean War era. It is an excellent platform for a complete restoration, or you can build it up as a fun Jeep to run around in.
It has many very valuable and rare military spec parts, and will come with the following parts. I will not separate the parts or allow cherry picking of the expensive and rare items. You could buy this jeep and easily part it out for more than my asking price.
Jeep rolls, steers, and stops. The axles and drive train are complete and original. The correct stamped Willys RMC engine is disassembled, but remains in-frame. The body has both data plates, and they match.
Comes with correct and original Carter YS waterproof carburetor, Engine lift hook, air cleaner, underhood battery box in excellent condition. Has correct 24Volt generator, starter, and distributor. Correct headlight guards, and all original Willys sheet metal. Very little rust, and the body is solid.
Has date correct Cooper NDT mil spec tires, etc. Original seat frames in good restorable condition. Comes with other NOS and good parts. Sold with bill of sale only. Call James at 510-682-6398 to see it.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $8000
This looks in good shape.
“This is a 1952 USMC M38 Willy’s Jeep. I got this jeep about 1 year ago. I love driving it I have put some work in to it and was trying to FULLY restore it. I can no longer work on it due to my vision. She runs like a dream and she always makes heads turn.
Only things needed to be done to it is break stems need to be replaced, bleeding the brakes and minor carburetor work. I will throw in all the parts I have bought for it.”
For $250, the tub looks pretty good.
“Really nice 1951 Willys flatfender original tub for sale. This tub is rot free, but has some surface rust from sitting outside. It needs some body work, but it is a VERY good tub. LOTS OF OTHER WILLYS M38 PARTS AND JEEPS AVAILABLE.”
Alright football fans. Mark spotted this unusual jeep. A Texas Christian University fan of some type painted this flattie. The paint appears to be in decent shape still.
“m38 jeep body with fenders, hood, 2 grilles, tailgate, bumpers, all floor panels. body only no frame or running gear.

Lots of parts.
“I am parting my project 1952 Willys M38. I have a lot of original parts including 24 volt stuff. Give me a call and I may have what your looking for. 425-308-9185”
Needs minor parts, like an engine and brakes.
“Willys army jeep 1952? Good body very little rust needs motor and brakes.$1000 obo”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
This appears to be a disassembled M-38. The price is a bit high given it’s incomplete.
“1940’s Willys Jeep body in excellent condition. Comes with frame for canvas, windshield with frame, front fenders, 4 military tires on rims pumped up. $2500.00 OBO”
The price is a bit high on this project. However, what interests me is that this appears to be a M-38 body, with the exception of a battery box. And, this doesn’t appear to be a replacement body to me.
“1950 Willy’s Jeep CJ – 3A Serial #49445; Runs Great Needs Body Work; 3500.00 or Best Offer.”
UPDATE: This was purchased by a reader. Was priced at $1500
Looks solid and complete.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.
This doesn’t not run. The seller suggests the body is solid.
“Willy Jeep for sale. Not running right now. In pretty good shape for the Model year. No title. Limited rust on the body and floor boards are good. Has a In-line 4 cylinder. Was given to me and has been in the barn for six years. Had it running a couple of years ago. Asking $1,500 for it. See pic’s and give me a call. This jeep needs to go.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2900
The tires appear in good shape.
