“1952 Willys M38, Restored, no rust, runs great, only 8k miles.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3800.
This still runs and drives. It has the wrong tailgate though and few minor mods.
“NO FRILLS, JUST A NICE REALIABLE VEHICLE USED FOR HUNTING EVERY YEAR. HAS WATERPROOF IGNITION,EXTRA WHEELS,JEEP STAMPED ON TAILGATE. WASN’T LICENSED UNTIL 52OR53 BY CO NAT GUARD”
This looks like a solid combo.
“Once retired from service with the military, this M38 Willys was used by a city in Colorado as a spray vehicle until purchased by a civilian here in Kansas and partially restored. Jeep runs and drives very well. All lights work, including trailer lights. Jeep has good tires, as well as trailer; one tire is new. Includes a new vinyl top and doors. Must be purchased as a set.”
UPDATE: Was “Make offer”
The CJ-5/M-38A1 and the red M-38 have been sold. Only the blue M-38 is left.

UPDATE: Still Available
(07/26/2012) I’m gonna guess that this is a M-38 body and front clip on a CJ-2A frame and possibly drive train. The gas inlet looks more civilian than military though. The tailgate is civilian, too.

“1950 M38 Willys Jeep, Hard top, straight 4 cylinder, 24 volt system. 90-95% original, good mechanical shape, needs body work. Heater already added to jeep.”
Frank found himself a rare M-38CDN and offered to share some photos.
He writes, “Just wanted to let you know that after looking for one of these since 1979/80, I finally aquired an m-38. a candian one at that! I’m quite excited about that, because only 2135 were ever built between feb and nov ’52. I found it on kijiji.ca in Fort st. john,BC. that’s 700km (460 mi.) from my place in Edmonton. I Drove out with my trailer to look at it fully prepared to return empty if the jeep was a rust bucket. It would have been a 1000 mi trip for nothing. Needless to say, it was not a wasted trip. I’s nearly all there, but the data plates and gauges got sand blasted by a previous owner; not the guy i bought it from. It’s 24 volt still and has almost all the stuff needed for fording. I’m sending a few shots of the trip and the jeep at home. I’ll keep you up to date on the resto. I’m looking to make it as stock as possible but also use it as a driver.”
UPDATE: Sold. Was listed at $8000.
This looks like a solid M-38. The title is TN, but I believe Winchester is in KY.
“Nice running M38 jeep, 1952 model with Tennessee title, new tires, new batteries and recently rebuilt engine. No trades”
UPDATE: Price dropped to $3500.
Now, this is a barn find. Plenty of rust and work needed though.

“Reluctantly selling my 1951 Willys M38 Army Jeep. This jeep is almost entirely original, so it is a steal at this price, well below NADA. You will see fully restored jeeps for $15,000 or more. This jeep is well on its way, but much more affordable. This jeep runs great, 4X4 is operational, will climb anything and go anywhere. Great for four wheeling, hunting, or just cruising around town. It has the famous 3 speed, flat four engine. Many parts of this jeep have been restored to original condition, including new seat covers (original canvas style), new headlights and blackout lights, new tires, new windshield/gasket, and much more. Garage kept.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
Here’s a very nice M-38.
“In the mid nineties I did a complete body off frame restoration of this M38 over a period of 4 years spending hundreds of hours. Every part was sandblasted and refurbished with NOS and new parts used where needed to restore to original.Included is a full winter enclosure with doors and side curtains. Also included are copies of the TM9-1804A, TM9-8012, ORD 9 SNL G-8012 and an original copy of TM9-1804B dated 1952, also original jack, handle, lug wrench and canvas pouch. The engine was rebuild with new rod and main bearings, valves reground, new pistons and rings, all new gaskets and seals. The transmission and transfer case were disassembled and necessary parts replaced and new seals and gaskets. Same goes for front and rear axels and drive shafts. New brake cylinders, lines, mastercylinder and shoes were installed.
NOS (new old stock) parts are as follows: radiator, air filter and precleaner, tail gate, driver and passenger seat frames, front floor panel, spare tire rack gas can holder, top bow and brackets, 24 volt recep, underhood battery box, tool box door, seat springs, vacumn wipers, vehicle data plates, cold weather primer, muffler and tail pipe, waterproof light switches, shackles on front and rear bumpers and other small items.
A complete new waterproof wiring harness using original douglas connectors was added. two new 12 volt batteries have just been bought. All of the waterproof vent system was replaced
The old gas tank was replaced with a new repro and sealed on the inside.
Some of the features are: 24 volt electrical system with one 12v battery under the hood and another mounted in the cowl area. The distributor, spark plugs, starter, generator, horn, all electrical are waterproof along with the engine and drive train. The blackout light on the fender and all blackout lights are functional, new windshield glass and weatherstripping added, new welting added between body parts, new shocks front and rear.
Every effort was made to restore as original as possible. Since restoration I have only put about 20 miles on it mostly trailering to car shows. In 1996 It won the peoples choice award at the Ga MVPA rally in Helen, Ga. It has always been garaged. I have the original Tenn clear title dated 1980. Ga does not require a title on avehicle this age.”

“I have a 1951 jeep willys M38 for restoration. I bought the vehicle and it ran and drove. I planed on restoring it but relized i do not have the time so it is completely tore down. The body is very solid for a 1951. It has a V6 that runs strong. All parts are there for a complete jeep. Would make a very nice hunting rig or off roader if you put it back togethor as is or would be a nice restoration project. Phone 507 459 4155 Name is Ryan”
Not totally original, but not bad either. The jeep was appraised at $17k? The seller needs to ask for his money back on that appraisal.
