Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I am active duty USMC stationed in California. I purchased this jeep a few years ago to restore, but other priorities come first and I need to pass this jeep on to someone who will use it.
This is an original US Army M38 Willys jeep. The drive train is all there and the body is about 75%. I have never tried to start it but was told by the previous owner that it was running when parked. The original seats and small things like the frames and brackets for the canvas top are all missing. It has some non-original seats in it and looks like it was used as a hunting jeep at one time. No extras, no top or doors, bare bones, just what’s in the photos. I have the Tx title.
This is a good restoration project at a great price. I have restored two other jeeps and they were about in this condition when I got them, but were much more expensive.

“Take a look at this completely rebuilt beautiful 1951 Willys M38 Army Jeep. Serial # MC33376
This jeep was rescued from a gentleman in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2012. It underwent a frame off rebuild. I’ve owned over thirty jeeps and have rebuilt/restored approx. 22 of them and have sold them successfully on e-Bay. This Jeep had been used heavily during it’s active life and was in desperate need of rebuild. (I’ve included two before pictures towards the bottom of the listing) The frame and drive train were complete but needed some repair work. The engine is a correct MC engine made by Willys of France in excellent shape – it runs great and is very powerful. I had to replace the tub with a reproduction tub, but most of the other components are original Willys. (i.e. fenders, hood, grill, windshield, seat frames). The jeep has its military components de-commissioned – i.e. water fording gear removed, and 24 volt converted to 12 volts, civilian WO carburetor .
Everything has been gone through on this jeep and everything has been sand blasted, cleaned, repainted, or replaced with new, NOS, or repro parts.
Chassis and Drive Train: four new leaf springs , new shackles, new shocks, new axle bumpers, frame stripped/blasted and painted, some components repaired (used some similar CJ3A parts) new front bumper, new u-joints, new clutch and bearing, new seals and bearings on tranny and transfer case which were drained and cleaned repainted, and all fluids and gaskets replaced, new e-brake pads, hardware, and cable, new engine/tranny mounts, new brakes including all lines and hoses, new master cylinder, four new wheel cylinders. New steering wheel, new rear bumperettes, authentic pintle hook. Five vintage 7.00×16 NDCC tires (they are older but in great shape)on blasted and painted 16” original rims.

“1950 willys m38 army jeep. this is not factory. it has a chevy sb (265 from 1956) has eldelbrock carb and intake, old style distributor with electronic ignition added, headers and dual exhaut ran all the way back, all new suspension, 4 in lift,, all but one front axle has been redone, has a s-10 steering column and manual box for steering. 538 gears, with a double throw transfercase, original 3 speed trans. , all of the wiring has been redone, the whole body was redone about 12 years ago. it was done right but not stored well after. it does have a few spots of surface rust but nowhere major and very few spots. no tire kickers. may consider reasonalble offers 712 540 6942 thanks for looking will try to get pics to send again and no title and 37 inch mtrs have been removed”

Sounds like some solid updates.
“This is a modified 1952 M38 military jeep. This is very solid and not rusty. It has a 1974 mustang II motor that runs good as well as an automatic transmission and power steering. It has axles from a 1965 CJ5 and will go faster than 45 mph. It needs the metal brake lines replaced on the axles because they are not there from the axle swap. It has the original Dana 18 transfer case and the four wheel drive works. This jeep was built in 1976 and has been sitting ever since in storage. This is not a junky jeep made for the woods to beat up and trash. With a little work this can be a great daily driver. The 1976 white top is still in very good condition. This has a clear TN title.
This has an unusual dash. It looks like the entire dash plate has been replaced.

This looks like a good restoration project, but the engine is stuck.
“1952 Jeep M38 This is one of the nicest M38’s to come along in a long time. NO RUST! Solid all the way around except for the large transmission cover panel. I have included a different one to replace it.
If you have ever wanted an easy project that would result in a top of the line restoration, don’t wait.
Very complete, only missing a few minor cosmetic items. The engine is stuck from sitting. All the 24V electrics are intact. This jeep originally had the arctic heater package on it which is why the cowl vent panel is not on the windshield.
