Runs awesome just need something a little more fancier for my ranch that I run hunts on. Come drive it whenever. It is 4×4 and a manual 4 speed. Wind shield goes up and down. 5 can ride”
This includes some interesting historical info about why no M-151s were built to be APUs. The question seems to be, was this a motorpool modification or someone’s backyard customization.

“Not much is known about the history of this little MUTT except that it was an original Ford built M151A1, produced in 1965.
On the back is a rather elaborate electrical generation set up, that includes replacement of the transmission with another generator unit. Power comes from what is believed to be a Continental flat head 4 cyl. The vehicle moves by an Autronic Unit transfer gear set-up that hangs off the front of the small “jeep”. A shaft coming off the front of the crank runs a chain that drives the “transfer case” that powers the front axle. Continue reading

“1968 MUTT Ford chassis with AMC engine. Currently registered in RI. MUTT was never issued a title & RI dose not issue them for vintage cars. I will post more photos I am posting for a friend.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.
“For Sale – Rare 1966 MUTT (Military Utility Tactical Truck). This was the last of the “jeeps” produced by the military. Although it was the longest manufactured most of these were de-militarized and cut into 4 pieces. This is an uncut MUTT.
The MUTT runs, or did when I started it last winter, but it needs a good deal of work. Vehicle has all seats and parts and also includes the winter hard cover kit.
I purchased this in Alabama and have the bill of sale and Alabama vehicle registration. Selling as is with no warranty. This is your chance to own a unique piece of military history. The price is open to discussion. You will need to arrange for the vehicle to be towed.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $13,000.

“For sale is an uncut M151A1 Mutt. Overall pretty complete vehicle with a great candidate for restoration. I purchased this vehicle because someone converted it to 12V and I needed the starter for another project (long story). The standard 24V parts are available everywhere.
Drivetrain:
Engine turns over and has been fired, I have a video to text. Transmission shifts in 3 of 5 gears.
Body/frame:
Overall decent. Rust is the front driver/passenger floorboard areas and the 2 frame ribs below them. Some on rear panel.
Early production parts on the Mutt:
Magnesium wheels
Early style hood
Adjustable seats”
UPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was $5000.
This one has a strange story. I don’t know if it is an XM-408 or not, but I did run across a manual for a 6×6 Mutt on eBay (see bottom).
“Bought the Mutt a military vehicle auction. Took it to shop to get running. They removed the engine and claimed it was stolen. So it has not engine and possibly other thinks missing. It was a ambulance in a past life. Unknown who put the 6 wheels on. Could have been the collector or it could have been a test vehicle in the US or Israeli army. I wanted to get it up and running to drive around on some property. It is not street legal. It would be fun to have hauling people around a farm or ranch. Takes a flat head ford army jeep engine.”

There’s also a reproduction manual for the M-151 6×6 on eBay:
