“Its smog exempt, well kept and needs little maintenance…..it runs, no mechanical issues”
UPDATE: **Status Unknown** was on eBay
As a street vehicle, someone may enjoy it. But, as an offroad vehicle, well, someone didn’t think this idea through.
“Up for auction is a ultra rare 1961 Jeep FJ3. This legendary Jeep was made for the US postal service. The FJ3 sits on a Toyota 4Runner chassis also with the power plant and drive train (22R). This build was made with an off road purpose in mind and with a “rock crawler” vision at the fore front. It can be taken any way the new owner desires. We decided to clear coat the patina in order to preserve the original US Postal colors. This is a fabulous project vehicle that is sure to draw tons of attention. Its a time capsule. We haven’t touched any mechanical, but the vehicle does start from the ignition. We have not hooked up the drive shaft to drive it or installed shocks. The FJ3 has been in Northern California for many years in the dry climate which minimized the rust. However, the combination of the US Mail colors and light rust make for a fantastic patina that you could not replicate yourself. The off road wheels and tires are nearly new. The overall presence of the van is one of a kind for sure.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5800.
Doesn’t look like it runs.
“Vary rare Jeep postal van good restore or rat rod cool ride”
Here’s an unusual brochure that makes the argument for the FJ-3A vs. the GMC, Ford, VW, Corvair, and International Vans. This is on eBay.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7500.
(01/13/2016) Adrian had this FJ-3 for sale. You can contact him at Dariankozz@gmail.com.
“It is a 1961 with a 350 and it does run. It needs minor repairs to doors and glass and interior gutted (Previous owner wanted to build a food truck out of it). Hate to get rid of it, but it needs a good home.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.
(01/04/2016) Hasn’t run in a long time.
” have a vintage 1964 or 65 FJ-6 Jeep Fleetvan used by the postal service. $3,500 obo. It was driven and parked many years ago. The body is in great shape and with someone who knows about these jeeps can restore it and use is for a variety of things. Very spacious and has all the window but two in the back, they were knocked out by a tree limb. ”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000
(01/17/2016) Lacks an engine and tranny.
“I unfortunately have to sell my 1961 FJ 3 fleet van. This was a US Mail service delivery van and it is right hand drive. This short wheelbase and tall profile makes it a awesome shop truck or advertising vehicle. It has the perfect patina and very limited rusted through holes. This is less motor and trans so you can put whatever drivetrain you want in it. This fan rolls and steers good and has the original rear end in it. I was told that they made around 200 of these and most of them got destroyed when they were decommissioned. A few of them got out if you worked for the post office they would sell you one. First $4,000.00 gets it.. I can tex more pictures. ..”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7000
This includes a parts FJ (not shown). It runs.

“Early 1960’s letter with picture and specifications for the Jeep Fleetvan Model FJ-3A…if you have one of these vehicles you will find this piece of literature valuable…used condition as shown with stains and a crease…good luck and please check our feedback and other fine items from our home to yours.”

Rare, but looks rough.
“1965 Jeep fj6 Fleet Van, Old Mail carrier. Been sitting for years, just pulled from the woods but still fairly solid despite the forest on it. Rust holes only around the front left corner. Lots of potential and super rare. Hurrican 4cyl, Right hand drive, automatic, and fairly complete. I really want to keep this but have too many projects and don’t want it to sit. Could be a sweet camper, business van, ice cream truck, service truck, etc, etc…$2000 obo, No Title, Bill of sale only. possibly trade for air-cooled VW stuff”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
The FJ-6-like vehicle is actually built by Studebaker. Thanks to Ron for clarifying what it is.
“Here is your chance to get one of the coolest mini step vans ever produced! A very nice 1963 Studebaker Zip Van. These vans are one of the rarest of all the small step vans and super hard to find! They were only produced for 1 year and were only made for the US Postal Service.
This one is in great shape! New Midnight Blue Metallic and Silver 2 tone paint, brand new windshield, like new ultra low profile tires mounted on Boyd Coddington aluminum wheels. Just tuned up, new plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, choke cable, air filter, oil change, oil filter, carburetor rebuilt and new fan belt. All work and paint completed in the last 30 days. This van runs, drives, shifts and stops the way it should. Keep in mind this Zip Van is over 50 years old and is in no way a perfect restored vehicle.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $25k.
Looks good, but not sure how seller is figuring the price, unless ice cream trucks rake in the bucks in Thousand Oaks??
“Rare and totally unique vintage ice cream truck! Runs great, engine has been rebuilt from ground up. Best marketing tool and get SO much attention! Has a current Ventura county health dept permit. comes with Honda generator. MUST SEE in person! $25K OBO.”
UPDATE: Was on eBay. **SOLD** for $1500.
Not a DJ or an FJ, but some one may be interested in this for mail deliveries.
“Runs like a little demon. Can’t kill these AM General’s 🙂 This one has original everything, decent body, runs great, some rust here and there and has been used at a US Postal Service Center I own. Making room for a new advertising vehicle. This can be converted to a food truck (Ice Cream Van would be cute) or simply a work horse once you tune her up and clean her up a bit. I put the postal logos back and the truck is sold as is with everything on her including the interior guts that the post office equipped her with. To the comedians who think you can buy a car/truck just for the title, you would be wrong. It’s against the law (and it’s fraud) to attempt to title wash a vehicle. You have been blocked from bidding.”
**SOLD** Was $7500.
Motor runs, but rig still needs work.
“1962 Jeep Fleetvan
Original motor that runs. I also have a spare motor that I bought just to have for parts if I ever needed them. This was a project that I just don’t have time for anymore. I was converting it into a mobile snow cone truck. It is not 100% completed. The air ride on the front will need to me completed. I have 35×12.50×20 mud tires on it with 20×9 Moto Metal wheels. They have no miles on them. If you would like more pictures or would like more information on it please call me.”
UPDATE: Was $5000. **SOLD**
It’s called the “Biff Bus”.
“1963 Jeep Fleet Van FJ3-A. Cute as can be, very rare, and a great conversation piece! Many people have stopped and asked me what kind of vehicle it is! 15 years ago it had a 1973 4 cylinder Pinto 2.0 engine transplant, and in 2007 a professionally rebuilt transmission by Marty’s Transmission of Portland. I have owned it for 28 years and have driven it very little since 2007 and did use it for an ice cream truck for about 7 years, and it has been in several parades. Its size is 12 ft. long, 5 ft. wide, and 7 ft. tall. The reason for selling it is that I have to find a happy new home for my beloved Biff Bus, as it is affectionately called. It has power brakes, an electric cooling fan for the engine, a nice array of marker and clearance lights, and a cassette car stereo. Some things on it that need work are: it needs a new alternator, has a little surface rust on the side and rear doors, and it needs new tags. $5,000 firm and no trades.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2800.
(10/18/2014) Has an oil leak.
“1980 fj8 jeep Driving daily as ice cream truck has power inverter and 2 freezers does have oil leak and needs wiper motor for wipers to work for more info”
Joel Dunn wanted to share photos of Carson City Board of Tourism’s newly redone FJ-3.
He writes, “I wanted to share some pics of Jays 1961 FJ3 that Carson City purchased as a project to celebrate Nevada 10th birthday on October 31, 2014. Willy participated in the Las Vegas parade on Friday the 31st and then at the Nevada Day parade in Carson City on Saturday November 1st. Willy was the hit of both parades and will now start appearing at tourism, travel and hospitality shows a cross the Western United States. Soon to come is a killer sound system and LED monitors.”
