I tried to learn more about CBI Theatre Cartoonist Ehret (maybe Wendell Ehret?), but didn’t couldn’t find anything.

Mark posted this over at sellajeep.com. The illustration was done by Shawn Ruland, an artist that does some work for SellAJeep.
Mark found this comic showing a jeep as the potential victim of a large bird of prey.
“Classic DC Silver-Age comic. King Condor. Lower grade reading copy”
UPDATE: This sold on eBay.
Well, this is an odd one. You can view a full size original Jeep Comic here.
“This little comic book is a vintage reproduction of a JEEP COMIC BOOK! FROM 1944! Completely handmade. The cover is illustrated on the front and back. Each of the 10 pages ARE EXACT REPLICAS OF THE ORIGINAL COMIC BOOK and tells the complete story! Most dollhouse comic books do not open or have blank pages. This one has 10 real illustrated pages! A hard-to-find item! So heart-warming and cute in such a tiny version!! A darling and funny story! The back cover is a vintage comic book ad for a GAG BOOK! It has been reproduced so small the images can be seen, but the font would need magnification to be read. This comic book measure approx 7/8 inch tall by 5/8 inch wide. Not a toy. Chocking hazard! This is an adult collector’s piece.”
On the back cover of this coloring book is a model jeep that folds together.
“For sale a vintage coloring book with Model Jeep G. I. JOE. This coloring book is illustrated by Jack Crowe and the drawings are based on official photographs through the courtesy of Department of Defense.
Published by the Samuel Lowe Company in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Copyright 1950 or 51 (hard to decipher) James & Jonathan Company. 31 pages of illustrations to color. The cover is dirty and a bit worn and the back and front have a tear on the bottom of the page
– the pages inside are also torn. (About 1/2 inch tear).
The spine is worn and the cover measures 11 inches in width and 13 3/4 inches in height.”
Mark forwarded this comic of BEWITCHED with a jeep on the cover. I found one for sale on eBay, too.
Taking pity on Mark’s withdrawals, I spotted this link that I never posted about Fred Kay’s Crazy Railroad. Lots of jeeps on rails.

Meanwhile, I’m going through and deleting old posts to reduce the site’s overhead while I move it over.
Roy Roger’s sidekick Pat Brady had a couple color books made under his name that feature a variety of nellybelle images. You can read more about nellybelle at the CJ-3B page.
1) This coloring book is for sale in a few different places. The cheapest price I found was on Etsy for $8.00 (plus shipping) and includes a few pages colored.
2) The cover of this coloring book was on a Pat Brady Biography page. I haven’t found it for sale anywhere yet.
3) I found this copy of a page from “In Trouble” at comic art fans.
John took the time to scan Male Call comic strips that contain jeeps and post them at his google page. Surprisingly, most of the drawings appear to be Ford GPs. You can view the cover of the book here.
He writes, “My Dad had a copy of this printing of Milt Caniff’s Male Call and had it stashed in the back of a dresser drawer. Fair game for a 12-year-old when I ‘discovered’ it in ’64. Don’t know what happened to his copy. Saw a copy on Amazon and grabbed it. I scanned all the images that include all or part of a Jeep in the strip. Consider this a fresh look, enjoy!”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
According to the description, on the back of this comic book is a picture of Roy, Dale and Bullet in a Jeep. No indication they are in Nellybelle or some other jeep.

This features two rocket launching jeeps, though they only somewhat jeep like. Maybe there are more jeeps within the comic.
“Fun 1950’S comic….great Golden Age issue…….fun 1955 War issue…..Korean War-Fight the Commmie like stories inside….a stain on top of back cover that is not that dark on front…….paper inside is very nice………A Solid GD Copy………Winner to pay within 7 days after agreeing to purchase item…..Maryland residents must add 6% sales tax to order…We do combine for shipping….just click items and wait for us to group them for you at the best rate. I have posted this comic as a reminder that the term Jeep is found in conjunction with planes during world war two. I suppose I need to track that a little better, because there are a variety of literary references to “Jeep Planes”. There is no information about the comic in the description.
Here are the first three issues of Jeep Comics from 1944. As far as I can tell, only three issues were created with jeeps on the front (at least, I can’t find any others). You can these covers here: http://superitch.com/?p=14130
UPDATE: You can view more cartoons here.
Paul discovered this gem in his crawlspace.
Paul writes, “I was digging around in the crawlspace today searching for some long lost item when I discovered a thin book with GI cartoons from WW2. The book’s by Milton Caniff (it was published in 1945) and features 112 GI comic strips drawn by Mr. Caniff and supplied weekly to military newspapers for the enjoyment of all branches of the service. I really enjoyed the attached Jeep comic and I thought you would also. After all, who hasn’t believed (at one time or another) the Jeep is more than a mere machine and is alive and aware of the tasks we ask it to perform? I can recall many times I’ve coaxed and pleaded with my Jeep to “Please get me thru this mud bog” or the always popular “Please, please start” on those frigid winter mornings [ed note: I am familiar with that coaxing]. Over the years I’ve talked, yelled, pleaded and praised my Jeep while it took me where I wanted (but not necessarily needed) to go.”
Roberto was kind enough to share some new artwork with us. Thanks!
“”Giant&Kids” is a graffitti painted for a bar in its facade (exterior or outside pizarre) for accompaning the daily menu during the San Fermin “fiesta” at my hometown.Look for the flattie! ;-))
“JEEP” is a t-shirt which I hope it´ll available in a few days through my online shop or just directly dropping an e-mail to me. Obviously, the design is a Jeepster Commando C-101.
“BD384x4Story” is one of my comics for French magazine “4x4Story Spécial Jeep, with some of the characters: Pierre Pinifarine and his dog “GPS”, Francine Overland (the girl), Jean-Ignasi Cardan and his cat “Elvis”, Bob Autolite (that´s me…more or less!) and the jeeps, obviously! Although I´m still questioning me the name of some characters!!!”
Roberto spotted this interesting Ad Browser site. You can check out a variety of Jeep/Willys ads by clicking here.
According to the website, “Vintage Ad Browser was created in 2009/2010 and released in 2010, by Philipp Lenssen from Germany, currently living in China. This site aims to collect vintage ads from a variety of sources, including comic books, CD-Roms, websites, APIs, your submissions, book, magazine & comic book scans, and more. At the moment, this site contains 123,311 ads. Vintage Ad Browser has a sister site called Cover Browser, started in 2006 – please have a look.”
Here are a couple unusual ads:
Maggie’s grandmother spotted this funny cartoon. Note that she edited out the original vehicle model and superimposed “jeep” in its place.
According to Baldocomics.com, the strip is written by Hector Cantu and Carlos Castellanos and is about Baldo, “a daydreaming teenager who’s trying to be the coolest kid in school. In the meantime, he’ll settle for a good game of soccer and building the sweetest lowrider car. That’s the short answer. But Baldo is much more than that.”
If you are a regular reader of the CJ-3B page, you have likely seen Roberto’s drawings and maybe saw his CJ-3B, too. At CJ-3A.com you’ll see his work at the top left. If you haven’t, I’ve add a few images of his drawings and his jeeps below for your enjoyment. You can find Roberto in a variety of places on the internet, including his own website, his blog, another blog and online store. He lives in Spain, but I think is recognized, at least by old school Willys lovers, world-wide. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Here’s some pics of Roberto’s CJ-3B and I believe that’s his CJ-3A (I didn’t get any info on that)?
Here are some of Roberto’s drawings.
The first is a comic for “4×4 Story Magazine Spécial Jeep” issue 26, Mai-Juin 2009. It is a French bimonthly magazine, based on the adventures of collectors and restorers of jeeps. Original size, 21 cms. x 14,8 cms.
This is a commissioned drawing ordered cartoon for a French customer, over cardboard. The characters which appear on this are the customer, driving his Willys jeep “Follow Me”, from WW2. He´s accompanied by his wife and son. Acrylics over carboard. Dimmenssions: 42 x 29.7 cms.
This is a logo drawn for a page on jeep Willys MB/Ford GPW of World War II. Pencil and computer on paper.
