UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5500
(01/22/2011) A reader named Luke asked me to post his CJ-3B that was originally purchased by the Army. I double checked to make sure this wasn’t a M-606 and the seller assured me that it was a CJ-3B and notes that “The data tag is marked SN 62151, which matches the last 5 digits of the VIN. All data tags are included in the sale.” You can contact the seller through the craigslist ad or contact me and I’ll provide his contact info.
“For your consideration is a 1960 CJ3B, which was purchased under contract from Willys by the Army. It has the data tag, with serial number matching the underhood data tag to confirm this. Early in the life of the jeep, it was modified with two fuel tanks, either by the factory, or by the Army.
The engine, transmission, transfer case, and differentials are all in excellent operational condition. There is no smoke produced by the engine when running, and little to no noise when driving.
The brakes are rebuild and work well, the paint was applied by me. There is some rust, but it’s very typical of older jeeps, and does not harm the jeep. The jeep is currently registered as a Maryland Historic Vehicle.”
This might be a good price. It appears in good shape.
“Selling my military vehicles: 1954 Willys CJ-3B (commonly called the “High Hood”) = $3000″
Well, if the seller spent more time on eWillys, he would see more original, less unlatered CJ-3Bs! That aside, Rich spotted this solid looking flattie that could use some light body work.
“This is the most original and unaltered CJ3B I have ever seen. We bought it to laser scan and Faro Arm track the body, to create a digital model for a special project. So now that we are done, I am ready to sell this little vintage patina jewel to the next guy to enjoy. It has sat in our warehouse for the last year, doing nothing. We inspected and serviced it lightly. You may want to comb through it before a major outing. We made sure it stops, steers and runs well. It is 100% original. Engine is super smooth, and super simple. 35K original miles. Original paint and markings, even the original wood windshield frame perches are still there! No rust, a few bumps and bruises, but an exceptional virgin CJ. Thanks for looking! JW

This looks in good shape.
“I have owned this jeep for over 20 years, and never drove it. I bought the jeep with a blown engine, and had the transmission and transfer case totally rebuilt, and I also rebuilt the engine starting with the block. I had the block magna-fluxed and found out that one cylender had to be sleeved, so we had it done. New crank, cam shaft, piston and rings, also had the valves done and the head checked and rebuilt. The flywheel was also turned. I put the short block together, and that is where I stopped.
The front part of the frame was sandblasted, but the whole frame was cleaned and painted. The The body was also worked on, any rust was cut out and new metal welded in. There is no body putty on the body, I have photos of the work we did to the body at each step. I have all of the parts painted including all the headlight parts, radiator and shroud. The windshield frame is painted black, and I have the rubber seal for the windshield. Some of the windshield hinge parts have not been painted, but all the parts were sandblasted, and coated with a primer that you can sand to remove any imperfections. The photos show the dust that is on the jeep and seats, but the body and paint are like new. We welded shut all the holes for the soft top snaps and such, I did not plan on installing a roof. This was going to be a sunny day vehicle!
I bought the seats from a parts dealer and had them re-upholstered. The light color you see on the seats is dust, not mold. The seats will clean up perfect.
I have all of the engine parts, and diagrams that I drew so I could remember how to re-install all the wiring. The carb has not been re-built.
I thought about parting this jeep out, but it would be a shame if it were never completed (I was so close!).”

There looks like some value here.
“I have a 1953 Willys CJ3B project for sale. 2 transmissions and a flathead 4 cylinder “Hurricane” motor on a stand. It currently has a Chevy 350 mounted out of an early 70’s truck. Not able to finish. Let me be clear that this is a project and cannot be driven home, you will need to bring a trailer. I do not have the title, I have a bill of sale and the plates that were on it. Asking $700 or best reasonable offer. Great restoration project or for parts. Will not separate, all needs to go together. I need this out of my garage.”
Someone is saying to themselves, “I knew I should have put the jeep in the garage.” This CJ-3B is located in Iqaluit, a Canadian town way up and out there, in relation to me anyway. The photograph was taken just a few days ago (as best as I can tell) by Ron Wassink. I think the jeep is for sale, too, for those that want to take a REAL road trip, but bring your back hoe to dig it out of the snow.
From Wikipedia, “Iqaluit was founded in 1942 as an American airbase, geographically located to provide a stop-over and refueling site for short range fighter aircraft being ferried across the Atlantic to support the war effort in Europe. Iqaluit’s first permanent inhabitant was Nakasuk, an Inuk guide who helped American Air Force planners to choose a site with a large flat area suitable for a landing strip. Long regarded as a campsite and fishing spot by the Inuit, the place chosen had traditionally been named Iqaluit – “place of many fish” in Inuktitut – but Canadian and American authorities named it Frobisher Bay, after the name of the body of water it abuts.”
This looks pretty good, but there aren’t any great pics here.
“1953 CJ3 Restored about five years ago. four wheel drive works, straight four cylinder. Nice ranch or deer lease vehicle. Make offer! Must Sell. 281-686-2487”

The step has been modified, but this is a nice looking flattie.
