Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. It’s an ex-forestry jeep.
“Mostly complete. Will need a complete restoration or would make a good parts vehicle to complete a restoration already in progress. It has frame rust through on drivers side (shown in picture) but it could be repaired. The transmission moves freely. The motor is in unknown condition and will not turn. At one time this jeep was in the forestry department (shield and numbers shown in picture). What is shown in picture is all that is available. Pictures reflect condition. “This 1947 Willys Jeep belonged to my father, who recently passed away. He has had it since 1960. He used it for hunting. He stored it in 1971. In 2013 he decided to get it running again. When he bought it, the original flat head “Go Devil” engine was replaced with a 1953 F-head “Hurricane” engine. Has hole cut in hood because Hurricane engine is taller than Go Devil engine.

We took it to a collector car shop in Sacramento, California, to start the project. We had all the brake components changed. Master cylinder, all brake lines, all brake parts, wheel cylinders, drums etc. It has new fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump and rebuilt carb. Valve job with all new valves, guides, etc. Converted to 12 volt system. All new bulbs and light fixtures in rear. New 12 volt alternator, and 12 volt gear reduction starter. New water pump, rebuilt radiator. Converted to positive crank case ventilation.
All new steering box, steering column and steering wheel. Recovered seats. Engine starts and runs nice, but smokes a little when driven. Bottom end of engine probably needs attention. We have suspension parts, leaf springs and shocks, still in boxes. This project still needs to be finished. We are looking to get back a fraction of the money invested in this project. Needs lots more work. If you have questions, I will try to get answers. The paperwork and plates on this vehicle are current.”

“Up for sale is my 1946 Willys CJ2A. This Jeep was one of the first civilian Jeeps available in the market. Fully restored, with tons of awesome features, not available in ’46, and even sports a chevy small block. Totally road ready, and off road ready. Also included is my extremely rare Arctic Top and doors. Most of these tops and doors were used at military bases and eventually scrapped. Email if interested. Only selling to make room for new toy.”

UPDATE: Price dropped to $12,500. Seller found this in a field and completely rebuilt it. The jeep has a very early title and tags.
“Here is your chance to own the oldest CJ2A on the Road. Its a 1945 Jeep Willys. This was the 3rd Willys off the production line. it was pasture green with daisy yellow wheels. This has been a 3 year build from the time I found it sitting in a field in granite bay California. This Jeep as been completely gone through you can drive this Willy to the hills with no problems. 4 low will put you at 5 11 gear ratio its the best all around willys of this era you will find.
I wonder how well those front mud flaps hold up at higher speeds. Seems they would be flapping like mad.
“This Willy’s Jeep has been fully restored, converted to 12V system and well maintained. The engine and drive train are (to my knowledge) original and runs well. All of the sheet metal is new and has been “rhino coated” underneath and on the floor surfaces on top. All gages work, new upholstery with rear side pads as additional seating, cargo rack, spare gas can, tire, “handyman jack”, shovel, and tow bar.”

“I have a complete 1947 cj2a jeep not running but it did just a couple years ago…..its a good doner vehicle for parts as its not road worthy….no title so it goes as is…..the drive train is excellent working and movable….I have some other parts for these jeeps….extra front and rear axles….engine/trans/transfer case assembly’s and a project cj2a i started that will have to go as well….no more time for these projects so call with any questions just east of Johannesburg…reasonable prices…also have a Lincoln shield arc welder and a 58 big block mopar 350 engine rare rare also Edlebrock headers for 94-02 Dodge ram V8 engines great shap”
