(05/26/2013) “This 1954 Willys M38-A1 Jeep (Korean war era) was completely restored a few years ago to nearly like-new condition in olive drab with matching canvas upholstery and top. Attention to detail throughout. Extra clean frame, no rust, this jeep is a true eye catcher and a lot of fun to drive around town. Complete engine tune-up done approximately 12 months ago. Engine runs very strong on 4×4 or 4×2. This jeep drives very well, as a correctly restored and mechanically sorted 1/4-Ton 4×4 should. It has all the right military jeep stuff, including decals, combat lights, jerry can and spare. Door safety straps and reproduction of the original maintenance and operation manual are included. “I’ve got a mostly original Willys M38a1. Very good condition and always kept in the garage. Great for cruising around town and I always get complimen’s when filling it up. Runs and drives great, but I don’t get the chance to drive it much anymore. It’s got the 4 cylinder engine with the 3 speed manual and twin stick 4×4 transfer case.
Backseat, and all buckles, and about 75% tread on the tires.
12 volt conversion.
It has the blackout light, but is not hooked up.
Missing the emergency brake cable.
Shifts smooth, but you have to double clutch from first to second. It’s done that since I got it, I’ve never fixed it because it doesn’t bother me. Does not grind. Might be a good winter project for somebody with more time, or just do what I did!
Engine rebuilt by a professional shop, I have the receipts. It does drip a little oil though, nothing major.
The odometer reads 1,876.

“1953 M38A1 Military Jeep in nice condition.
I have owned this Jeep for around 20 years. Around 4 years ago, I had the dents and dings taken out, primed and painted by a local auto-body shop. I did not have them fully disassemble the jeep as that would have been a little too pricey for me. As such, the more hidden areas (like under the fuel tank) are not painted in Army green, nor was the underside of the vehicle. The paint was researched by the Surplus outfit in Oroville and that is where I purchased it. I have a gallon of it left for touch-ups or doing what was not done before.
There are several military gizmos still on the Jeep: It has a pintle hitch, the small black-out lights below the headlights, the canvas-bow brackets mounted on the side, several placards (in brass) showing the serial number, etc, several tie downs for a top and the shovel bracket under the hood.
The floors are (amazingly) rust free and the tool chest beneath the passenger seat is intact with only a small bit of rust. There is a bullet hole in the floor of the tool chest (?) that was there when I purchased it, but not in the lid. It’s something you can ponder over with your friends.
The Jeep needs a thorough ‘going-through’ to check and replace seals where necessary.
The bottom canvas on both front seats need to be replaced but the remainder is quite serviceable.
There is a rear seat bench, painted-to-match of the correct type and the canvas is there.
All 4 tires are military-type and show very little (if any) wear. There is a spare wheel and military-type tire or serviceable but older vintage. There is a painted-to-match roll that just hasn’t been re-installed after the painting.
The jeep starts, idles, runs and drives. I believe the engine (a 4 cylinder) is original and has a new fuel pump and tune-up around 3 years ago. The battery is old, but it starts and the lights work. It has been converted to 12V. The battery well is funky and could use some protective coating.
The speedometer, water temp and oil pressure appear to work. The fuel gauge does not.

“Mint condition, 1953 Willys Jeep with all of the Army decals. You do not find an army jeep in this condition often. This jeep looks like it just came off the show room floor prior to going to a Mash movie. All stock except for the front wheel hubs. I drove it in the Daffodil parade and taken it to car shows. It is a head turner.”

“This is a rare Willys M38A1 Marine Corp Radio Jeep. A limited quantity of these vehicles produced with this radio setup. The radio is still in the dash.

The body of the Jeep is in very good condition. There is some minor rust spots on the hat channels. The Jeep is in good running condition. It is still 24 volt and all original under the hood, has a new canvas top and canvas seats and is road worthy ready.

“Willys Model M38A1 built in 1954. It was restored from an M38A1 that was untouched since its days in the US Army. When purchased, It still had OD paint and the hood and unit numbers were still visible. The body was very good.
The body metal is very good with no rust. This jeep has been garaged since owned. Have Top/bows.
Engine still at 24 volts. All engine accessories are correct. Cranks well, starts right up and runs good. Holds the road very well.
The Jeep has a period correct US Army Radio set with antenna.”
