Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This looks like a good price on a very early M-38a1.

It’s got a great top. It comes with an anti-theft chain, too (see stearing wheel pic).

Here’s an original, lightly used Jeep.
“1954 willys military jeep. under 30,000 miles. has recently been painted. tires are original and in good condition. all parts are original except 2 new batteries, no canvas top. have some metal frame work for top. body , inner wheel well and framework appear to be rust free. been in storage for 18 years that we know of. reduced to $3,000.00.”

“1957 JEEP WILLY”S powered by a 289 ford, New radiator and electric fan.4.88 gears Locked up in the rear with dic’s breaks all around, sky jacker lift! sitting on 33 Mickey Thompson Baja Claw about 85% tread left. Rim’s are powder coated satin black. Exterior is rhino lined forest green, interior is black under coater. New weather striping. Title is clean jeep is about 90% done need a little more work. 1500 needs to sell”

I wouldn’t mind getting some more shots of this 1958 Civil Defense M-38A1 from the South Plattsburgh Fire Department out of Plattsburgh, NY. This unit serves as their brush truck and currently carries 80 gallons of water, chain saw, hand tools and a booster reel supplied by a 30 gpm pump belt driven off the prime mover engine.
This appears in good shape. It might make a good reproduction project.
