Nicely restored in 2004. Body off restoration, new tub, professional paint job. I have driven about 20,000 miles since the restore, all back roads and highway. I restored to show at local car shows and enjoy putting around in the Mother Lode area of Sierra’s. New tires, runs great, very reliable. There is an original Ramsey Winch with spool, a rear power take off unit to run it, also works great. Clean California registration and Title. Must see to appreciate. UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
Here’s a nice looking CJ-3A that starts at a fair price.
“Hello, up for auction is my 1953 Willys CJ3A. This Jeep is an excellent example of “survivor” and is mostly original. I am the 3rd owner of this Willys. I purchased it from the 2nd owner in 2012. He owned the Jeep from 1962 to 2012. I was told the Willys was owned by the State of Maryland from 1952 to 1962 but I have no documentation of this. The mileage currently shows as 51017 and is the original mileage. The Willys is a 1953 according serial number but is titled as a 1952, this is very common. The build date falls in November of ’52, often new vehicles were titled as the year they were sold in. The title is clear and in my name. The Jeep is mostly unmolested other than a repaint some years back by the 2nd owner. The paint is close to the original color. There is rust but the body is very solid. Sections of the hat channels, body sides where the floor meet them, and the rear panels are the worst of the rust. The floors and tool box botom are remarkably solid. If properly cared for the body will last for many years. The frame is solid and shows no cracking. This Jeep is mechanically sound and very reliable. The Jeep has a set of dealer installed vintage lock out hubs, an original grill screen and a factory accessory Pintle Hook. Also included with the Willys is the Witco black vinyl soft top. I have put roughly 4000 miles on it while I have owned it. I have gone through the Willys and serviced everything.
UPDATE: Still Available
(10/04/2013) The seller is quoting NADA, so he/she likely expects to get a lot.
“Very rare to find one with no rot and runs excellent; Motor redone and transmission is tight. Trade for? What do you have to trade? track hoe, backhoe, 4×4 tractor with extras or? N.A.D.A. value in average cond. is $10 to $11k and this is the nicest one I have seen that has not been redone.

“1951 Willys Jeep. Jeep has been garage stored for 15 years. Was running when garaged, but hasn’t been operated for 15 years. body is in good condition. 81,300 miles. Motivated seller.”
UPDATE: Still Available
“Frame off restoration on a 49 cj3a. less than 300 miles on this jeep since completion. New springs and shackles, professional bikini top and seats and more. If I couldn’t rebuild it I replaced it. L134 engine was professionally rebuilt. Every thing was sandblasted and coated with rust prevention before painting. Will also come with an extra running L134 engine and an other parts engine plus a plethora of extra body and drive train parts. This is a personal restoration so the body work and paint job are not professional an that’s why I am not asking 10 to 15 grand for it. Extra parts include a rebuilt dana 41 rear end, cj2a wind shield, hood, gas tank starter and generators, seat springs.
Will sell willys for $5500 alone.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7000.
Looks solid, though not 100% original.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500. Relisted in NY here.
(07/03/2013) Apparently, Ward Canaday owned this jeep. It’s got some body rust issues.
“1951 cj3a. This Jeep was owned by Ward Canaday who was president of Willys Overland and also considered father of the Jeep. It was used on his Ottawa Hills estate as a maintenance vehicle.
That said, its in pretty decent shape for being 60 years old.
The jeep had been sitting for 25 years or so and the engine was stuck. Replaced all exhaust valves, and ground intakes. Pulled pistons and cleaned. Replaced cyl head. Rebuilt carb. New master and all wheel cyls. Runs good. Odometer shows under 2000 miles, but speedo cable was broke. True miles unknown, but I doubt it has a whole lot.
Windshield is cracked, gas gauge doesn’t work, steering box is kind of sloppy, body does have some rust.
I have done the repair work on this jeep and am listing it for the owner. I can answer any questions and show the vehicle. It does have a title and also owner has a copy of old title showing it belonging to Canaday’s estate.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $12,000.
From afar this looks good.
