Not sure how the seller came up with the model number “CJ5PEX”. I’d be surprised if this wasn’t a DJ-5. This thing sure has an unusual style.

The earlycj5.com site recently published some great brochures about a CJ-5 truck called the overlander which was available in Australia. Check it out! (Thanks Dan).
This one falls into the “I didn’t know they made an adapter for that” department. I was doing some research into whether there was an overdrive solution (besides the Sierra OD attempt) for the Dana 20, which I thought there wasn’t, when I came across this thread from the early CJ-5.com website. It turns out, someone made an adapter that allowed the Dana 20 to attach to a BW overdrive, though I suspect such a combo would only work in a long wheel base vehicle (these adapters are also occasionally on ebay as well). Here’s a pic from the thread.

UPDATE: The guys over at the earlyCJ5.com website have been working diligently to get the website back online. They’ve updated the software, using wordpress as the new foundation (the same used here). They have plenty of work left, but I think the results will be worth it!
(from May 8th) I’m sure some of you know that a virus/worm got into the earlyCJ5.com website and chewed up the content (that’s about the best metaphor I could come up with). In the meantime you can access earlyCJ5 regulars at http://www.universal5.com/ or follow the twitter feed at http://www.twitter.com/earlycj5. I wish them the best of luck in getting that great resource back online!
To hopefully keep this from happening to eWillys, I have a daily database backup emailed to me.
Andy shared this one. According to a data plate, it was in the LBJ inauguration parade.

“Tuxedo Park Mark IV. One of 20 White Official units in the Inaugural Parade of Former President Lyndon Baines Johnson on January 20, 1965. Tires inflate and roll. Engine turns”
Given the price, this might be worth a look.

“It’s got a 6cyl in it. New tires for it . It might run been sitting for a long time but nothing really wrong with it but the fender and rust will take best offer . All original”
There’s been a lot of work done on this. Seems like a pretty good price.

UPDATE: This was first posted March 20, 2018.
This post began as a reference to a Farm Collector article about Jeep Loaders by Jim Gay. It turns out that there were several loaders that weren’t included. Below you’ll find the most complete list I’ve been able to assemble.
FARM COLLECTOR ARTICLE:
Appears in good shape. John shared this one.

“Very solid 1955 Willys Jeep CJ5, #[hidden information]. New tires, battery and tune-up by previous owner. Runs, drives and brakes great. Has the rare Koenig removable cab. Battery operated winch. Would consider partial trade for project vehicle or vintage guitar. Asking $8700 obro. Thanks for looking.”
UPDATE: Still Available.
(02/09/2024) John shared this project.

“Jeep FJ-6 1966 right hand drive. Old post office fleet van. Engine is junk but comes with another one that’s good. Frame is solid, body is galvanized so almost no rust, does have some dents. I don’t really want to sell it as it’s a personal project of mine but I wont be getting to it for a long time so I’ll just leave it posted if someone wants it bad enough. My plans are to bag it and slam it, but it uses a CJ5 chassis so you could easily make it a fun 4×4 rig.”
John shared these projects/parts jeeps for sale.

If that price is serious, this is worth a look, even if it doesn’t run.

“61 Wyllis army jeep Best offer”
Tom shared this ad, which looks like a great price.

“Looking for a classic JEEP ? Well here ya go very well preserved. Has new carpet, mirrors and a smaller steering wheel plus new wheels. This would make you the talk of any Jeep outing. No trades.”
This book cover landed on Facebook. It appears there was an early (or original) edition publishe din 1952 without a jeep on the cover. The CJ-5 cover edition was published in 1960 (and possibly other years). I do not know if a jeep plays any role in the narrative.
1952: (can be found on Amazon for $14.59)
1960: A copy of this book can be found on eBay for $4.99 plus shipping:
If you need a stock CJ-5 top, this may be worth a look. No doors.

This has been repainted, but looks in great shape. Thanks to TJ for sharing.

“1973 Jeep CJ5 – 62,5000 miles. Original body ,no rust. The body, engine 258 l6, and transmission all original . Repainted in 2012. Straight body. Clean title. It is time to say goodbye after 30 years of fun. This is a great Alki beach cruiser. I’m the second owner. I found this in the north Georgia mountains in a barn in 1994. Make an offer.”
John shared this 3B. Some vintage lettering is still visible. It’s also got a GOV date plate.

“Original Military contract CJ-3B for parts or restoration. Engine runs strong. Tranny and transfer both good. Front dash and fenders good to restore. Grill is nice also. Rest of body shot. Axles are good. Good candidate for a drop on repro body.
Original Military data tags are still there.
As seen in pics the hood denotes it was used by the town of Ellenburg NY at some point. Likely for plowing. I picked this jeep up along with a few others from an estate in Shelton CT. My focus is on WW2 jeeps and not later models. I will also be listed a 56 CJ5 separately.
Asking price on this 3b reflects the known good F Head engine, tranny, axles, etc. Data tags are pretty cool. Would make a great Vietnam War era build.”
This seems worth a look.

“1955 Willy CJ5 with a Chevy 350. Disc breaks on the front with brake boost. Runs and drives need some work. Four-wheel-drive is not hooked up, but it comes with the front driveshaft. no doors or top. Title in hand.”
This is worth a look. It includes a Koenig hardtop and a PTO winch. It has a few updates, including a heavy duty rear bumper and a steering wheel that I don’t recognize.

“1955 CJ 5 Runs and has a clean title Has a new carburetor, fuel pump, and battery. Has a PTO winch $4000 firm”
Lots of potential here. It also includes the Kelly top with vertical rear doors. It does have a title issue though.
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1831665023939412
“very solid Kaiser built CJ-5 restoration project, V-6 Dauntless (Buick) engine in running condition, working snowplow, excellent tires, transmission and clutch in working order, new fuel pump and filter, I flushed the fuel tank and lines which are very clean and rust free, recent oil change, other than surface rust there is no rust rot on the vehicle, floor is solid,
it runs and drives, doesn’t smoke, there is a title but it was signed in the wrong places by the previous owner and DMV wants a new title which requires submitting the existing title and a certified vin verification but CSP will not issue a vin verification unless the vehicle is roadworthy meaning all the lights, horn and wipers work, or you could just bond for a new title…
it also needs a battery, the emission air pump is seized and disconnected, the manual choke cable is stuck and needs replaced or lubed, drivers door latch needs a little work, there are some seeping seals and gaskets but the drivetrain seems in solid condition, some play in the steering, brakes work but could use attention, it was purchased new in Steamboat Springs, lifelong Colorado vehicle and sat in a field for a few years when the fuel pump went out, the odometer reads 05336, so I assume it’s rolled over, a great candidate for restoring though it wouldn’t take much to get it basic working condition and plow your drive. Email questions and contact info”
