Randy forwarded this link to some Ira Rosenthal photos from Iwo Jima. Included is a picture of this jeep.
The photo’s caption reads: A U.S. Marine driving an ambulance jeep struggles in the sandy beach at Iwo Jima during American advance on the strategic Japanese Volcano Island stronghold on Feb. 26, 1945 in World War II. just observing a few details:
gas cans on right front fender
spare mounted on hood, looks like a longer wood strips?
windsheild changed to 90 degree by changing pivot point?
Seems to be the USMC Holden ambulance, am I wrong?

I was wondering that too. I couldn’t quite tell from the driver’s side.
If you really want to read a good book that details what our WW2 guys went through I urge you to get “Flags of our Fathers”. My dad was a WW2 (Europe) and I headr some of his stories but this book is GREAT.
I’ve been to Iwo Jima in 2000…I’m here to tell you I can see why that Jeep had a hell of a time in that black sand. If you want a first hand account of the Marine Corps island hoping campaign besides the book mentioned above, read “With the Old Breed” by E.B Sledge. His book was one used in “The Pacific” HBO series that accompanied “Band of Brothers”. Here is a link to the CJ3B page where I sent them a picture of a Japanese Mitsubishi Jeep I saw on Iwo Jima…(its the yellow one)
