Welcome to eWillys.com, a website for vintage jeep enthusiasts. I update this website nearly every day with jeep deals, jeep history, interesting reader projects, jeep related info, and more.
These quick searches can help you find things on eBay. People list in the wrong categories all the time, so don't be surprised to see brochures in the parts area for example.
The links to posts below show jeeps grouped by models, condition, and other ways. Some of these jeeps are for sale and others have been sold. If you are unsure whether a vehicle is still for sale or not, email me at d [at] ewillys.com for more info.
There are plenty of interesting, unusual, historic and surprising stories related to Jeeps and their owners. In addition, some of these features have nothing to do with jeeps. This link will display all featured stories starting from the latest.
Looking for parts and not sure where to go? There are a variety of large and small new and used parts sellers both online and offline.
Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. So, tread carefully when purchasing a "project". If you have any concerns about buying a vintage jeep, or run across a scam, feel free to contact me for help, comments or concerns .

new owner – still working on the start-up, but good purchase. gearing feels fine, rolls fine, cooling system good; turns over, no water in oil; fuel system unclogged cleaned from tank to carb; might just get a spark to plugs this week. brakes – no fluid in system. New tires and rims as shown in photo.
the bad – tailgate non-stock. larger tail gate cut down to fit and welded mid line. Pan -ok rust out in foot area, body support channels rusted out past frame rail. Any suggestions on cost effective fix appreciated.
Thanks for the lead. Bought it same day of posting.
Daniel .. congrats. I’ll update the post.
I’ll go through your list of issues tonight and offer any suggestions I have.

Daniel,
though the fuel system is unclogged, does the fuel pump work? These are known to go bad.
tailgates pop up all the time on cragislist. Finding one should be easy.
The rusted channels are pretty common. It’s hard to recommend an inexpensive pan solution without seeing what is good vs. what is bad in the floor. Here are some links to options:

Dave – thanks for the comments and links.
I believe the fuel pump works b/c I filled it with gas after cleaning and it push that fuel up to the filter on cranking. Fuel line still a problem – likely debris from tank that not did not come out when drained. Only a matter of time. My little girl (11yrs and has the fever now too) gapped some new plugs, install a new condensor and the engine fires up on limited fuel spray via carb.
Question – we cleaned the front differential and found a tag on the housing cover bolt number with ’48’ stamped on it. What is the significance? (I am working on registering on the cj2 page for these questions).
thanks – great find!
Dan
hmmm … by bolt do you mean the plug that is on the cover?
like the tabs that hold the brake line by the bolts that hold the housing cover. There was a metal tab or ‘flag’ with the number stamped on it. No functional use and not the bolt.
Its purpose is to identify differential by number.
Oh yeah .. I know what you mean. Are you sure there isn’t more than just “48”? I tried to find an example online. Here is a link that might help you: http://www.cj-2a.com/oldsite/marks/axle/index.html
You’ll see a tag that reads 43/8 which equals 5:38 That should be the gear ratio inside the housing.
probably correct; the tag is bent over on itself and it was late when I tried to read it. thanks.
forum log-on not working – Update – reamed the fuel line with bigger wire and resolved fuel supply problem. Motor fired up and ran steady.
I opened rear differential to drain/clean and found the bearing cup (not sure of name), holds the main drive screw in place, had two loose bolts. Some damage to housing cover and teeth (slight). I am wondering if I need to check anything else? – like the axle shaft before putting the cover back on. yes, I tighten both bearing cup/clamps and check for other loose bolts.
any comment appreciated.
Dave, what is this jeep worth? Bought for 850 and seller had change of mind. I agreed to get formal title later and now can’t get it. Have bill of sale only. Have 1400 into it and they want to buy back for 3k. Want 3500 for anoyance amd i really want to keep the rust bucket. Excellent engine amd drive line. Ca state; thoughts on telling them to shove off or take 3k and call it a nice profit.
Thanks
Dan
If you can make money on it, I’d say go for it due to the title issue. It is rare to put money into a jeep and make a profit these days. I would need pictures of the updated jeep to be able to give you a more precise value, but given the rust you mentioned above, $3000 sounds like it is higher than I would pay for it. If you really want to keep it, bump the price up higher. For that $3500 you can buy a pretty good flattie or CJ-5 if you take your time to look.
