I doubt the seller has any idea, but this is a M38. The firewall has a 2A tag but that’s it. I bet whoever restored it didn’t have a title and may have done that deal where they buy a title and tags from someone and put it on this.
I sent them a note. They look like they have car knowledge given all the vehicles they have in the background. I’m sure they will find the info interesting.
they must have removed the battery box then….or is it a replacemnt tub?
I’m with Frank. I think it’s a CJ2A with a repo tub. J.R.
Then they replaced the windshield, hood, grill and tailgate also. They aren’t anything close to CJ2A parts. The CJ2A frame wasn’t boxed either up front like this one is. It wasn’t uncommon to ditch the cowl battery box and patch it over on a 12V from a 24V conversion are if the box was rusted out. I’ve been wrong before but money is on that this is a M38.
I’m not saying this isn’t an M38. There’s just some thngs that are unM38. Isn’t there supposed to be a hinged grill? I boxed the frame on my 2A when I threw in an engine with more torque to stop frame twist. I’m still learning all the nuances of the Jeep in it’s many incarnations and when I see something that I’m not sure of I ask. There are many individuals who peruse this site whose knowledge on this subject far surpasses mine.
If you look at the grill, there are 4 holes for the hinges but were omitted and the grill was remounted with out them. The frame boxing looks factory, you can see the round cutout.
’nuff said. nice Jeep and nice color.
Headlight buckets aren’t M 38 type and neither is the instrument panel, the paint is pretty but there seems to be quite a bit of rust on the running gear. I think the sellers are wanting to charge alot for the paint job. The rear axle looks like it’s been rotated up to change the pinion/driveshaft angle and some hat channels have been removed from the floor by the exhaust. This Jeep does have some M 38 parts.
I sold a jeep a couple of years ago like this, It was redone in the 70s I think and whomever had gotten a complete body from someone like JCW. It had all the sort of M38 parts, grill fenders etc.
I’ll bet there is no jeep script on the tool box and it has a number stamped on the drivers side firewall ridge under the rain gutter J.R. 🙂
Wonder what info is on the dash plates under all that yellow paint???
