I’m going to golden Monday to look at the school of mines, so I will stop by on my way and look at this.
What are you doing at the school of mines? At some point I have to drop by there and complete some research
– Dave
Dave,
I applied to colleges this past winter and got accepted into The School of Mines this past week. I will be going up there on Monday to check out the campus and attend an admitted students meeting. What research are you doing?
James DeBartolomeis
James,
Long story … my great great grandfather was a mining engineer and leading expert on smelting and refining from the 1870s through the 1910s. He built smelters in Salt Lake, Leadville, Pueblo and Great Falls. He eventually co-founded ASARCO. My great grandfather followed in his footsteps, becoming a world-wide consultant and member of the executive team of ASARCO. Eventually, my great grandfather got into a battle with the Guggenheims over control of ASARCO in the 1920s. Their stories will play important themes in my next book (hopefully).
There are a variety of documents at the School’s library. My g. g. grandfather also paid for several family members to attend the School early in its life and might have contributed resources to the school.
