Is that a stock drain coming out of the gas cap? I’ve never notice that on any other jeep.
“For your consideration, a Nice Willys 1953 CJ-3B, registered, in great running condition. Recently outside was painted up in Korean war military olive green. The Four cylinder F-head engine with 3 speed transmission has recently been Rebuilt with new pistons, rings, bearings, head milled,etc..(have reciepts). Original Carter Carburetor has been rebuilt too. Steering is tight, brakes work fine…Warn locking hubs installed.
Has original factory Jeep metal cab with fiberglass roof, and sliding doors installed. (all removable)..
Tires are excellent condition mud snow type.. All head and signal lights work…Overall a good jeep to restore to perfection, or just use as is for driving, plowing..etc. Please note, there are a couple sheet metal repairs in the front floor, and body rear, but nothing structural. Shows 48k miles on working speedo..”

Hmm, I’ve never seen that kind of a cab on a 3b, looks like a dispatcher cab.
I was wondering the same thing …
Dave, what you call the “drain”, could it be that the gas cap was vented because the fuel system was having some performance issues? I seem to recall reading that on a jeep forum somewhere. I think you’re right, I don’t think I’ve seen this anywhere else so I doubt it was a stock item (unless it was millitary).
Probably to vent outside the hardtop. With the door closed it would vent in the cab.
Good Point on the venting!! I wonder if that issue was learned the hard way?
This Jeep was at an auction a few months ago and went for high price, over 4k$. (if the auction was real) The jeep did run good. Rust repairs were not the best. The top could have come from a DJ5 or a CJ5 as it is a little longer.
Very interesting .. Thanks Vic
I doubt that the top came from a DJ5 or CJ5, as the 3B body is more like that of a 3A, but higher for the F-head. This top looks like it was built for the 3B. The 3A dispatcher hardtop would have to be modified to fit. The DJ3A body has the rear gas tank, so I suspect the vented tube does just that, vents the fumes to the outside of the body. The bottom door support rail is different than that of the DJ3A hardtop body as well, since the majority of those had a full to the floor door opening. I have not seen one of these tops before either, but you don’t often see a 3B with a hardtop with sliding doors. Most are the hinged type or the artic cabs.
