I stumbled upon this unusual shot, in color no less, of an MB with a custom hood from the 1977 movie Soldaat van Oranje.

According to IMDB, “This film depicts World War II through the eyes of several Dutch students. It follows them through the beginning of the war, the Nazi occupation and the liberation.”
An Elco PT boat in the background?
I watched this film just a couple of weeks ago – I can recommend it. The film was shot in 1977 in the Netherlands and the UK I believe. After WW2 many war surplus jeeps in the UK were converted to so-called ‘shooting brakes’ with the addition of these wooden bodies. I believe from a neighbour (who was a WW2 Royal Navy veteran, and who bought one of these jeeps in the 1970s from which the wooden body had rotted away, just so he could re-use the engine) that the bodies were produced and marketed within the UK by a couple of specialist companies.
Hi Vince,
Great info … thanks! I did a search for ‘shooting brakes’ and came up with this website (http://www.oldwoodies.com/gallery-jeep.htm), which has some jeeps I had seen and ones I hadn’t. Thanks!
