UPDATE: This is back … http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/2268969464.html
Note the new description. Same pics. You can view the earlier versions here.
“1942 GPW Ford Military Jeep – compact military four-wheel drive utility vehicle. Other: Oil Filter; oil filled mesh; 1 throat carburetor, manual choke, exhaust/intake at driver’s side, intake heated via exhaust/bimetal control spring. 6 Volt DC generator, Failsafe automatic fuse. Please contact me with any questions or if you need more information or photos.!”
I clicked on “earlier version here” and the previous ad says that this is a SCAM. I don’t know how to tell a scam from someone honest. I’m just posting this comment because I see a conflict. You can investigate for yourself whether or not this is a scam.
**Steve E.**
Didn’t mean to confuse you on this Steve. Various versions of an ad for a 1942 GPW for just under $5k have been appearing all over the US. The pic is always the same (the one above), but the text has been changing. Several people contacted the seller and got back suspicious emails about how they prefer handling the money, that the sale was urgent, etc.
Does that help?
This ad/vehicle sure gets around the country…
At least the seller . . . I’m sorry, “the scammer” is persistent. 🙂
It’s pretty fascinating to watch. I just flagged it .. it will likely appear elsewhere ….
These bastards should be found and dealt with like the criminals they are. I almost fell for it once, but then I wanted to physically see and test drive the vehicle. Needless to say, contact ceased from the other end. The ad stayed up for weeks after, moving from one end of Canada to the other; sometimes 2 or 3 different cities at a time. After a while you learn to spot the scam……but never seem to find a scammer. As the old saying goes…. caveat emptor (buyer beware)
HA! I just saw the same ad on craigslist St. Louis and got all excited, even emailed the ad here!
sent the guy an email asking if he had a title. I live in Springfield and I would have driven up and bought it!

Thanks Jim
