“It is with much sadness that I post this unique gal for sale.
What do I have: replacement title says ‘44 but I don’t think that’s right. I believe that she is a 1951 CJ-3A and NOT a WW2 Jeep. I believe it is one of 75 jeeps that the Valentine Weldong Company converted for use as a Navy APU. The hole in the dash along with a few holes where their badge would go and the hood bump leads me to this conclusion. I have no proof of this, just what the evidence seems to indicate.
Engine: She does have the F4-134 engine that was put into the Navy APUs along with a very well done hood bump to create the additional clearance. Runs great and clean if you drive her often. Did spit some smoke at startup recently after sitting for a couple months but cleared right up.
4-wheel drive: is operational,
Oil leaks: between tranny and transfer, front diff cover, oil plug, front of rear end. I have new seals for front of transfer case and rear diff. Just not installed.
Body: For an unrestored Jeep she is in great shape with all of the sheet metal intact and only surface rust , mostly on the uncarriage. There are a few dents and someone put bed liner in the wheel wells/bed but there’s no significant pitting or rust-through. There’s a newer gas tank but the jeep is mostly original.
Tires: Has the stock steelies with NDT tires that hold some air. A couple of them may be original to the APU conversion as they’re marked “Military”. After sitting for a while they’re between 7 and 13 PSI.
Paint: The blue paint is not original, there’s traces of the yellow from her days as the Navy APU under the blue. So it’s peeling in a few spots but mostly solid.
From what I can tell, she’s mostly original and was under a roof for most of her life.
Why I’m getting rid of her: She really was a unique find and I’m gonna kick myself some day but my storage plans fell through so now she has to sit outside and I can’t bear to see her turn into a pile of rust. But the usual time/money/space.

Asking: $8000. I am fairly firm on that price. Some new tires and fresh gas and you’d have a great Jeep to tool around in or hit the trails. Got her from the Driftless Area in Wisconsin and she putted right up those hills no problem.
Location: Des Moines Metro Area Iowa
