Jesse is selling this CJ-3A, though he doesn’t know the exact year. It starts and runs. It does not include the top. Email him at jrbarta @ mtu.edu (remove the spaces around the @) for more info.

“I have what I believe is a earlier 3A for sale. 3A style frame anyway, I could poke through the other differences to tell for sure.

On the positive side, I did get it running and it starts and runs quietly. Original Carter carb. Not a lot of modifications made except for a few very serious modifications that may or may not be a lot of work to correct.(like the fenders) The dash etc is pretty straightforward with a minimum of holes drilled and things of that nature. Seat frames are good, hood could be okay for a driver. Grill has a little dinger in one of the bars that could be bent back. Older but still soft mud tires on 15” wheels. Drawbar is nice. Great oil pressure. I think basically someone was using this jeep for plowing and taking care of it mechanically until they weren’t. It had clean oil etc in the engine. The starter was missing so perhaps that is what took it out of service.

On the negative side, the fenders are pretty bent up and welded to the cowling. They could be cut off and reworked or cut and replaced. There is quite a bit of rust on the passenger side floor and body. Big patches needed here. Rear floor has rust, rear fenderwells have rust, typical wherever the wood body supports go if you are familiar. The transmission is stuck in gear. There is some terrible looking gear lube in there now. Transfer case does shift into neutral however. This jeep does not have a title.

Basically, I bought this jeep to keep the windshield frame and maybe fix the transmission and 4 wheel it as is. Realistically we will be downsizing in the fall and I won’t have room for it.

Jeep will be sold without the windshield and top. I would like to save those for my other jeep.

Starting out at $2300 for it. Located in Bozeman Montana. Thanks for looking!”
