“1966 Jeep CJ6
3 years since body-off resto mod. The CJ6 is a 20” stretch of the CJ5 body tub and is the predecessor to the CJ8 Scrambler.
Buick Dauntless V6 (rebuilt 2019, bored 0.030 over, decked, hardened valve seats installed with valve job on head rebuild) Advance Adapters headers/dual glasspacks/3” chrome turnout tips.
Borg Warner T86 3-speed manual plus Warn Overdrive (makes it a 6 speed)
Twin-stick Dana 18 transfer case, Dana 27 and 44 axles, 4.88 gears.
Custom-fabricated power steering conversion using GM Saginaw gearbox. Bed liner paint job in 2019 since the body was fairly rough from its former life. Color matched the OEM “President Red” paint.
OEM Meyer metal hard top fully restored and repainted. New stainless hardware/door handles/locks/weather stripping. Doors were disassembled and the roll-up mechanisms were cleaned and lubed. New window slide channels installed. All 9 windows have custom-cut tinted glass from a local hot rod glass shop.
Painless wiring harness with fuse block for all circuits. Replaced 100% of the factory wiring. Every wire is labeled along its insulation by the mfg what it goes to and where it comes from. Wires under the hood and under the tub are wrapped in custom loom and zip tied to the frame or body as appropriate. Roll bar was sand blasted and powder coated and is wired for an overhead courtesy light.
Besides what’s been mentioned, the following have been replaced during the restoration:
Floor liner, front turn signals, tail lights, restored turn signal lever, ammeter, oil pressure gauge, shift boots, heater core, large glovebox, grill-to-hood seal, heater air intake flex tube, defroster duct flex tube, all hoses, water pump, starter, plugs and wires, cap, points, oil pump, fuel pump, rebuilt carb, thermostat, battery, front brake wheel cylinders, clutch, body mount pucks, wiper blades, mirrors, hood latches, steering column-to-floor seal, clutch/brake pedal-to-floor seals and springs.
This Jeep served most of its life with the maintenance department of Snowmass ski area. It was put out to pasture after a long career. I rescued it and did the majority of the resto work myself. It now gets driven weekly.
Restoration occurred over 3 years from 2018-2020. Approximately 3000 miles on the engine of around-town errand running and commuting to/from work. Seats are OEM and have not been restored. As mentioned, the body tub was rough when I got it. The same local body shop that did the bed liner and paint work also did some patch work with metal and bondo in places and welded in new floor panels for both the driver and passenger floor boards including the “hat channels” that support the floor.
A Wrangler half/bikini soft top and support conduit tube are included. A new parking brake cable is included but not installed. The factory skid plate is also included which has been cleaned and repainted. The speedometer gear that attaches to the transfer case output housing is not correct and won’t spin the needle on the dashboard. Otherwise, everything else on the dashboard works (fuel gauge, water temp, high beam indicator, oil pressure, ammeter, back lighting to all of them)
