(09/20/2010) If this runs and drives good, I’m wondering why it has a non-op status.

    It’s likely on Non-op for the reduced registration fee. Non-op status here in CA is something like $45 for a Jeep that age. If you don’t register it for one year and then come back and want to re-instate it, you are looking at almost $400 in fees (that was the case with my 3A purchase earlier this year). Non-op keeps the registration current, but doesn’t give you the legal right to drive it on the roads.

    I know I’m stating the obvious, and I understand there is likely some twisted logic involved, but that is nuts …

    If you don’t put a non op slip on a vehicle and dont renew the registration in CA, there are huge fines when someone buys it and tries to register it.
