Maury shared this nice looking CJ-5. The current bid price is $11,000 (with 6 days to go). The stripes are consistent with a 71/72, but an original 73 ought to have a different stripe style, shouldn’t it? Maybe it is a 72 titled as a 73? Here is a look at the Renegade stripes: http://www.ewillys.com/2013/08/20/renegade-stripes/

“This 1973 Jeep CJ-5 is said to have undergone a twelve-year refurbishment completed in 2021 that involved refinishing the exterior in yellow, re-trimming the interior in black vinyl, and installing a replacement 304ci V8 linked to a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes 15” wheels, manually locking front hubs, a dual exhaust system, a black soft top and doors, Renegade graphics, black wheel arch extensions, and a roll bar. Acquired by the seller in 2022, this CJ-5 is now offered in Nevada with service records and an Arizona title in the seller’s name.”
I don’t believe that the Renegade has a tailgate. They had a solid panel.
Dave I also think you are correct on the stripes.
It also says it has a T150 transmission. It should have a T15 with the V8. A T14 or T18 with the 6 cylinder.
I think the T150 came out in 1976. May just be a mistake.
My ’77 Renegade Levis Edition had that engine/transmission setup.
I didn’t know much about Jeeps at the time (still don’t), so I always wondered why they used a three-speed?
The best mileage I got in town was something like 9mpg.
I guess being the sport version, they figured the Renegade didn’t need a tailgate.
Larry: I missed the tailgate. My understanding was that the pre-75 Renegade packages lacked tailgates. However, after going through some forums to verify this, I am less confident that all Renegades had tailgates. My father had a 73 body with no tailgate, so, at least some 73’s lacked tailgates. … Regarding the transmission, it could be a mistake? It would be an easy one to make.
John: Why 3 speeds? I don’t know. I used a T-15 in my road/trail/racing flattie I built in the early 80s. It worked fine for racing and the street, but was never low enough for the trails. I would have preferred it had a granny 1st gear.
I ordered a new CJ5 in 1974, which I still have.
According to the sales brochure, Renegades did not have a tailgate. Also the stripes went down the side of the body from the hood. If I remember, you could order a base CJ with or without a tailgate, so that makes sense on the 73 you mentioned.
