Hay guys I’m looking for a 54 m38 grill any chance you have one and is it cheap on camp fire surviver trying to rebuild my lost jeeps
Hi Jonathon,
I’d contact J&W through their website: https://www.jwjeep.com
A 1954 jeep would be an M-38A1, as the M-38 was only made between 1950-1952. That said, you might have luck finding a grille through this Willys Military Jeeps forum for M-38s and M-38A1s: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums
Best of luck!

Thank you for your help. Thing is I’m not totally positive of the year. The PO says it a 54. But my browsing history and compairing the tub I have to pictures of other jeeps tell me it’s a m38. The PO told me 54 was his best guess.. I’m putting the tub on to a 66 cj5 chassie. And the guy I got it from would not part with the grill. Now I at least can narrow the right year down to the 50 – 52. Thank you. Is there a way to find out what year. Did they do any thing to make one stand out from the others. This is my first build. Not my first jeep I also have a 67 that was built by high angle driveline based out of paradise ca before the camp fire destroyed our town. The 66 frame is from a camp fire surviver. It was partly burned and after the fire a clean up crew hit it with a excavator damaging the tub. As a fire surviver myself the PO gave it to me before moving out of state. The m38 tub I found in a field on a farm. Thankfully that po had set it on blocks so the rust is minimal but I’m finding more bondo then metel. So far I have learned that the body mounts have to be moved and I had to put a good scoop on it to get the hood down over my hurcules 4 banger. The dash has been molested beyond belief and a po used a wood dash to fix it. All and all I have to say it’s a adventure and I am loving every little bit of building it myself. Even to the point where my wife complains I spend more time with the jeep then her and lovingly Nik named it devorce. Lol
On the front side of the right rear wheel well (behind the passenger seat) there should be a small Willys data plate attached to the sheet metal. If this data plate is still on the body (look carefully, sometimes they’ve been painted over and are hard to see) the serial number of the vehicle will be stamped on this data plate. If you see four small screw holes in a rectangular pattern that will tell you the data plate has been removed but the jeep can be identified by various body characteristics. If the data plate is still attached to the wheel well carefully remove the plate and remove the paint by soaking the plate in brake fluid. Please don’t sand the data plate. If you send a few photos of your jeep body to Dave the viewers here on ewillys will quickly tell you what body you have.
Hi there, I am rebuilding a 1970 CJ 5 for my wife. I’m going back completely stock with the exception of installing power steering. Do you have a parts kit that includes all I would need?
Hi Don,
You’ll need to contact J&W via the phone number in the ad. That said, I doubt they will have a ‘kit’ of CJ-5 parts for a 1970. What you’ll need depends on what’s been modified. A place you might be able to find some used, stock parts, as well as good knowledge on what constitutes a stock 1970 CJ-5, is the http://www.earlycj5.com forum. My guess is that you’ll likely be having to hunt down individual parts or locate a parts jeep that has what you need.
If you have other questions, feel free to email me at d@deilers.com and I’ll do my best to answer your questions. Best of luck!
