I don’t have a specific date for this brochure, but it shows that Cutlas Manufacturing was selling a couple different types of wheel covers, including the “J” covers. It is marked Form 105, but is not dated. This was likely published between 1963-1965.
Maury shared this example of a factory photo with the “J” hubcaps. He says, to the best of his knowledge, this was a 1966 CJ-5 factory photo:
These wheel covers were so cool, both styles. The “J” covers were for sale in the J.C. Whitney catalog in the early 1960’s and were listed in both 15 & 16 inch, yet when I inquired about them in 16″ at Mide Motors Jeep dealership, I was told told that were only available in 15″. Shows you the lack of knowledge on the part of showroom salesmen. Just the same, at the age of 13 in 1962, I couldn’t afford to buy them anyway. My dad’s 1950 CJ3A went “Bare Wheel”.
Very interesting Mike. I didn’t notice they were available in both sizes. I *think* I’ve only seen them in 15″, but wasn’t paying too close of attention as I didn’t know to look for the different sizes.
i threw a set of ” J ” covers away about 10 years ago — i was convinced they were FAKE NEWS !! — never came stock on a jeep vehicle , so in the dump they went — the ” J ” cap just looked phony in my book …
