hmmm .. excellent point .. I hadn’t noticed the tool indents … yes, that would suggest a VEC (indents + the bow holders)

Also, to me that looks like a MB grille.

I originally listed this as a 3A because of the year, figuring the seller put on a different windshield (shame on me for missing everything else!) I’ll fix tonight.

Don’t think thats an MB grill, looks like early 2A. Wrong headlights for an MB. Also note the 2 I.D. tags on the fire wall, 2A verses 1 for the 3A.

    Also,

Once I got a better look at the dash, is that a bunch of extra data plates on there ?? Don’t know much about the VEC’s, is that normal ?

Yes, these new pics clearly show that the grille isn’t MB. Those plates appear to be M-38 plates to me. My guess is that this jeep is a marriage of a VEC and a M-38, which explains the 1951 date (and my cj3a guess in the title was simply based on the year)

I talked to the guy yesterday and he said that he had to replace the coil but was able to get it started and drove it around his yard. Brakes are useless. He tried to start it with me on the line and it took a little effort but it did start. Looks like there is a hole in the firewall? Seems the dayglow orage they sprayed in the engine bay paint went thru and the wndow looks to be plexiglass. Also he said that the top has no glass. And I just love the cover the guages and spray the rest paint job.

look closely, the steering tube still shows the upper column shift hub, it has a full floating rear differential, and regaring the dash plate, i think someone installed the M-38 plates, if you look close enough, you can see, and count the 12 holes (4 per data plate) for the 3 original interior dash plates. captured nuts in the square holes on the underside of the hood (early 2A trait)…. firewall knock-outs behind the carb for the early style heater still in place…i would be curious to know what the serial number, and body number tags on the firewall, on the passenger under the hood say…

this looks to me to be a 45 2A, or a very early 46 2A…..

  7. mandtbikes/45cj2

looks to be a 45 the windshield has square plates where the top bow bolts are, late 46 & up have round plates

  8. michael myers

early 46’s have square washers on the windshield panel up until around serial number 22XXX…
