UPDATE: No one can remember seeing another grille like this and, so far, there’s no evidence of another grille like it. Per the comments, I’d agree this was likely home modded (and pretty well done at that).

“1954 Willis Jeep CJ3B. Period correct Chevy 283 conversion from the 60’s or 70’s. This is a great example of a Willis that was converted years ago and is a survivor. Runs good and only has a couple areas of rust to add to the patina. Stock 3 speed with the original overdrive (rare) and working 4×4. New upholstery. Needs some wiring but otherwise road worthy. Current non-op in hand. Asking $5000 or trade.”

I’m wondering if the side grill slots were cut and hammer formed by the person that did the engine swap. While they have a stamped appearance, the edges are not as deep as on the center slots, which have the normal factory stamped profile. The radiator looks wider and farther forward than stock, and the shroud area behind the slots appears to be changed to fit the radiator. Makes sense for the V-8. Kind of a nice idea, and well done!
I also like the two symmetrically placed dash lights, and what appears to be a low profile defroster vent between them.
With the photo enlarged, I agree with Brian. It’s just very good body work to accommodate the radiator. A close examination reveals the edge differences as he says and imperfections can be spotted as well.
