What’s the best way to spot a replacement body? I was told if you look under the hood on the drivers side firewall, an “L” indentation was a sure sign. Is this accurate?
I have not studied the “L” so I couldn’t say for sure.
If you look at the body, you’ll see it has passenger indents like an M-38, but lacks the M-38’s battery cowl lid. That’s almost always a tell tale sign the body is a replacement body. I’ve seen a few replacement bodies that had the passenger indents, but also had an MB/GPW -like glove box instead of an M-38-like glove box.
Also, if you look at the lower left part of the grille you can see it is set to be mounted like a hinge-mounted M-38 grille (at least one hole at the grille bottom is visible), but this grille is mounted underneath like a CJ-3A grille. So, it’s another reason to think the body is a replacement body.
