“Up for sale is my 1951 CJ3A with the coveted Warn overdrive. The United States Navy originally took delivery of this Willys in December of 1951. All information is listed on a brass dash plaque right next to the standard information plaque. It has the original 134 “Go Devil” L-head motor with good oil pressure, T-90 trans with Warn Overdrive, Dana 18 transfer case, Dana 25 front axle, Dana 44 rear and 15″ steel wheels. This vehicle starts, runs, drives and stops. The carb, locking hubs, and wheel cylinders have been replaced. I have had this Willys in storage for 4 years waiting for the time when I could restore it. Time and 4 other Jeeps is proving that may never happen so it needs a new home.
The body and frame are very solid. There are no rust through holes that I have been able to find in the frame, body, floors or hat channels. There is an undercoating on the tub that is peeling off in places exposing the original gray paint in very good condition. This paint can also be found underneath the hood. It does have weathering, surface rust, and some damage to the rear passenger side corner sheet metal. The fuel tank, front seats, and steering wheel are not original. The clutch isn’t disengaging completely when the pedal is pressed in. Unless you are idling at very low RPM’s, it will not go back into gear without grinding. Wear on the clutch linkage causing this kind of problem isn’t uncommon. It could be a simple adjustment or might need a new clutch. The tool box was removed from under the passenger seat by a previous owner so a secondary fuel tank could be installed.
The tub was not butchered in this process. Aftermarket parts are available to put the tool box back in place. It has been updated to 12 volt but but the original foot starter by the gas pedal remains. Several of the gauges still work. At 68 years old, this Willys is a lot of fun with tons of character and original features. I always wanted to slowly strip off the layers of paint to see what additional military markings I could find other than the dash plaque. With minimal work it could easily registered so it could be driven on the street or trail. It has a Utah title. I have an exterior walk around video with the vehicle running and a video of the undercarriage with the Jeep up on a lift that I can send via Facebook messenger. Located in West Jordan, Utah”
