I was recently visiting with a Korean veteran, discussing my M38A1, and his stories of how cold it got in Korea were central to his noncombat experience there – it sounds pretty brutal, and this photograph bears that out.
Wow! That is a picture from Chosin reservoir. Brutal battle in US Marine history. You can see it in his eyes!
Any idea of his first name?
Hi Nick,
Unfortunately, I couldn’t locate that info. Getty Images has a large collection of LIFE images. Maybe the image is there with the full name? https://www.gettyimages.com/collections/lifepicture

Thanks Mark!
How did you find out his name? I couldn’t find it anywhere
Sgt. Dinnigan is my brother in laws deceased father. He shared the photo and history with me.
Any other info about the photo or his service that you can or are willing to share? I love uncovering history like that. Makes a photo more than just a photo of something.
FROZIN CHOZIN – you can tell it was cold there , 3 jeep cans in front of the radiator to stop air flow , tire chains on a jeep , m1 carbine ? – my father was in the navy during the korean war , he never talked about it , i think he was offshore on an aircraft carrier ..
