Rich is hoping to find a set of vintage Gates Commando Tires. He’s open to different 15″ sizes from G70 to 10-15 or whatever someone might have. You can email him at squareweave @ shaw.ca if you have something.
Here’s a photo of what the XTs look like:
Mickey Thompson has reproduced a set of 27″ Gates for the dune buggy folks, but I’ve not had much luck finding any other vintage Gates-like tires.
These were awesome tires. I never understood why they quit making them.
yes , these were the tires to have in the old days , I borrowed a set of them once , 1972 ? and put them on my 48 model 4wd truck , then I drove it down clam beach , humbo county calif , it would almost climb sand dunes then , but the f-134 didn’t have the ponys …
armstrong tru-tracs…the best,Jerry, the best! If only to have a set on my 57 cj5.
@David
Yes, the true tracs were awesome also, but on the road; loud and didn’t wear well. I think the Gates were more of the AT tire of its day. If someone still made them; I’d own a set.
