What manual transmissions would be a good fit for this V8/D20 combo?
Depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to do some difficult jeeping, you might want to put in a tranny with a granny gear. If you’d be more inclined to run in the sand or down the road, a Muncie, Ford Top Loader, or something else should work fine. That’s just off the top of my head. If it were me, I’d swap out the Dana 20 gears for Dana 18 gears (plus the Bronco gear) so that I’d have a lower range transfer case.
I have a 54 CJ3B with a Chevy 350 Engine/Turbo 350 Transmission/Dana 20 Transfer case. My solution to the driveshaft/transmission clearance was to buy a deep dish transmission pan that holds 2 extra quarts of fluid. I then cut back the pan along the edge along the driveshaft and welded in a piece on an angle. I would estimate it still holds 1 extra quart of fluid over stock.
Hi Kevin,
Sounds like a good strategy! My driveshaft ran pretty close to my Turbo 350 as well.
