The Mercury inboard version had the higher HP. The Chevy 153 was 90 HP
If only the stock Chevy II’s generated 153hp!
Dave and Larry……great catch on horsepower !! My CJ3B with the stock F engine sits next to my vintage dirt track midget race car…..which has a Chev II with Hilborn fuel injection ……Vertex magneto……etc etc and probably made 150 hp on a good day on alcohol. Several stock Mercruiser engines against the wall just in case.
No worries Allan. If only we were as good at catching our own types as we are at catching others!
I had a 69 Nova with a 153 90hp in it. I also had a 69 Nova SS 350 pulling around 375 hp. I liked the SS better! Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Why is this obviously not a 1947?
Hi Bob,
Well, I was puzzled about that, too, until I referenced a past version of the seller’s ad. That’s when I realized the 1947-date comment referred to a version of the seller’s ad where they claimed that 1947 was the first year Willys sold CJ-2As (it was actually 1945). Since that text has been removed, I have deleted that comment. Thanks for pointing that out.
