Can you get a pto winch on a seep? Man, 8 years to complete his trip. I thought driving to my brothers was long…
They had capstan winches (http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=6661). The PTO mechanisms were initially developed for the SEEP to drive the bilge and propeller and evolved from that (I ran across that recently somewhere).
Here’s a manual in case you want to know how to operate one: http://www.filmprops.nl/produkten/fordoper.man.htm
The GPA Capstan was driven off an engine belt. Here’s a photo:

That’s what I love about this site… questions answered. Thanks Dave
Hey Dave, Don’t forget you saw that PTO on Mike’s Willys Pickup Schnecker Back Hoe on our Breakfast Club Tour here in Smithfield, Maine
Glenn,
Yeah, that was a neat project (and fun day). Here’s the link for those that haven’t read about our day in Smithfield:

Carlin was a very volatile character with a hair-trigger temper-his wife bailed out on him about halfway through his voyage, and the man who helped him on the trip from Japan to Alaska had a very tense time with him.
Not seen this photo before either Dave.
