UPDATE: **SOLD** was $8000.
“Only 4,200 miles great shape. It has a PTO driven winch in the front and an PTO on the passenger side.Has an original non directional spare tire.Everything works and rust free.Price is firm. It was used by a Fire Department and stored in a heated garage that’s why it has such low miles.”
Wow! What a find, and a late gen 3b to boot. Worth every penny.
it has some rust
Owner claims”rustfree”…what did I miss?
Not sure he’s serious about selling. I contacted him a few weeks ago and told him I was an hour away. He said he’d send photos ‘later’. I notice the rear floor and fender wells were replaced, and I’m assuming that the front bumper was replaced due to having removed the special fire pump front bumper.
Has the passenger side floor board been replaced or is that a mat in the pics? Don’t like seeing the rear floor or wheel wells replaced. Pretty heavy price tag if there has been that much repair and not done like original.
I agree Chris. And seems like it should still have all the fire apperatus on it to be more original. And what is a passenger side pto?
Seller says price is firm, seems a little high.
I’ve seen the use of pulleys to get a pto on the passenger side. Got to get around parking brake assembly. I looked at one in Colorado that ran a generator from the passenger seat through a hole in floor. Have no idea if this was a factory option or not. I’ve seen a lot of interesting pto set ups using pulleys
Keith, does this look the the two warren twp has? I’ve only ever seen the one, but the spare tire setup is identical.
This is the one I’m thinking of:

Chris,
Maybe it was a Farnsworth Middlekauff generator like these? http://www.ewillys.com/?s=farnsworth
While not factory, references to them were included in Willys Overland Special Equipment and Industrial Books.

Dave,
Thanks for the link. That’s pretty close to what I found. The jeep was a total mess and far from original. Not sure how rare those generators are but maybe I should have made an offer.
Very rare. I’ve only documented one for sale. I suspect there’ve only been a few others for sale in the past few years? It’s possible other jeep owners have assumed the generator was an extra not designed for the jeep and removed them.
Hey little brother, what about that 3b for sale outside of Everett, WA. where we picked up the Ren 1 from Stan? That fella had a pto gen set up that sat on the passenger side… I bet he still has it. He wanted a kajillion dollars!
He said that came out of a mb jeep. It wasn’t hooked up to the high hood. He was just selling it with the jeep to help raise the price. That was a very nice jeep but way too much money
I talk to the owner who owns this jeep. He bought it at auction. It used to be Warren fire departments jeep. According to the owner it was stripped of all the sirens, tool mounts, pump, and water tank. He says it all original, but as stated the removal of the fire equipment leaves this jeep in dispair. Again according to the owner there are multiple holes that would need to be repaired and fix to bring this jeep a solid jeep body. He stated its “rust free” but then told me the original back floor is rotted out. I asked about the large plate that is weld in the back floor area. He said we was not sure if they originally put that in to help support the FD tank/pump or if it was put in after as a fix later down the road from the weak rotted floor. He seem to think that water at some point got between the plate and the original floor and then it rusted out. I know he made mention of some body repair that had been made to the jeep (like a fender) by the FD that was damaged in a wreck of some type. He also mention some other type of rust but it was not a huge issue. I asked him about the wiring harness since fire departments have a lot of lights, sirens, Chargers, and radios. He said it was all removed but the mess of wiring still needs to be cleaned up and he was not sure of the condition of the splicing and hacking into the original harness. He did add it is 12v, it has a generator (not an alternator), and all the gauges work. On top of all the mess above he was not sure if the frame had been welded up for strength to support the frame. The tires don’t hold air, it leaks a little oil (typical), has no top or doors, and no tailgate. As mentioned above the price is high on this jeep for what needs to be fixed and what is not there. I think this jeep is very far from original and as mentioned if it had all the fire department equipment on it; it would be worth close to what he is asking. As it sits it does have alot of potential for a project jeep and should be priced accordingly as a project jeep. I was disappointed about all the info above when I talked to the owner. I found this add on CL and was ready to buy because of the listed condition and distance from my location. I wish the owner good luck with his sale. I hold this helps anyone looking to buy.
Hey Drew, that’s a lot of homework you did. It looks like the ad is not at all accurate. What a shame. Way too much money now. Thank you for your due diligence.
I second Todd’s comment. Thanks for taking the time to write that up. It will save all interested parties a great deal of time!

The last time I saw this jeep, it had all of the fire equipment on it, but some of it had been modernized, like a newer honda pump and such. Floors on these are very often rotted out because of the leaking of tanks and such. I remember listening to this jeep run and was amazed at the low miles. It has been maintained well it’s whole life. Too bad they did not leave the fire equipment on it. I would have thought about this myself it it had all of the fire stuff with it.
