OK, I’ll bite: what’s a “Summer Hub”? Do they free wheel or lock? …or only lock when the shaft is engaged?

The summer hubs spin free providing more true 2WD and saving wear inside the front pinion. They were designed for nice weather road driving. When weather turned poor in the fall you could put on the original hubs and revert back to 4WD for muddy roads and poor conditions.

These had no splines inside the housing. Now we all ALWAYS know when we are going to need 4WD don’t we? Picture yourself, wrench in hand, in mud up to the KAZOO, changing back to your regular hubs.

Thanks for the info. Just when I think I know a thing or two about old flatfenders… well… ya know 🙂
