Wow, might be worth a look? I saw that for sale this morning and thought that price is excessive. But then again I don’t know what you guys do, VEC, Tuxedo, Surrey, I just don’t get it all. I casually looked at that jeep after ringing the doorbell, not knowing what I was looking at apparently. I can’t be positive because the pictures don’t show the house.
I think it was there. I bought a mostly junk transmission from him, for the case and shift levers. I was looking for a spare for my FC150 and he had a sideshift for sale out of that jeep, someone had taken the cover off and torched the forks off to facilitate it shifting from the top. He had or was rebuilding another to make column shift again.

I think it’s worth a look for its originality, not necessarily for the price. There’s plenty of work to be done on it and, I suspect, the photos don’t show the extent of work involved. However, it looks quite unmolested, which is rare to see. I also suspect this never had bow holders installed on the driver’s side. It’s worth a closer look, but that would give this jeep an additional rare aspect.

I try not to post anything anywhere that questions another persons knowledge, that is not my intent here. How would I possibly know what a bow holder is? You’re saying this is in a desirable condition of being collectable, or worthy of saving in this condition???

I didn’t think you were questioning my knowledge (and feel free to question me anytime, as I have certainly made my share of mistakes 🙂 ). I felt your comment was a good chance to take a longer look at this jeep and add my additional thoughts about it.
To address your question, yes, I am definitely saying that this appears worthy of saving due to its originality. Many jeeps are altered for all kinds of reasons; therefore, it is quite rare to see a survivor like this that hasn’t been modified, patched, ‘bubba’d’, had parts replaced, and more.
And, it is both salvageable and collectable. How much of the body is rescuable depends on the welding ability of the restorer. I’m willing to bet that the floors, the sides of the body, and the steps would have to be replaced, but those parts exist. Unrestored very early CJ-2As (aka VECs) like this are only becoming more rare. Finding one that is running is even rarer (and this appears to run).
There will be a lot of work involved, but based on what I see in the pics, for the right person it looks like a good restoration project.
