That does look like wood… maybe an alternative way to fasten that rear seat and the ammo cans? It’s been painted a few times: dark green, yellow, medium green, and now gloss navy blue. Still, it seems like a reasonable deal for a mostly-original, running, titled M-38A1 🙂
