“Hello, up for auction is my 1953 Willys CJ3A. This Jeep is an excellent example of “survivor” and is mostly original. I am the 3rd owner of this Willys. I purchased it from the 2nd owner in 2012. He owned the Jeep from 1962 to 2012. I was told the Willys was owned by the State of Maryland from 1952 to 1962 but I have no documentation of this. The mileage currently shows as 51250 and is the original mileage.”

The Willys is a 1953 according serial number but is titled as a 1952, this is very common. The build date falls in November of ’52, often new vehicles were titled as the year they were sold in. The Jeep is mostly unmolested other than a repaint some years back by the 2nd owner. The paint is close to the original color. There is rust but the body is very solid. Sections of the hat channels, body sides where the floor meet them, and the rear panels are the worst of the rust. The floors and tool box botom are remarkably solid. If properly cared for the body will last for many years. The frame is solid and shows no cracking.

This Jeep is mechanically sound and very reliable. The Jeep has a set of vintage Warn lock out hubs, Warn 30-26 overdrive, an original grill screen, very rare CJ-V35/U front tow hooks, Harrison heater, correct CJ3A windshield mounted rear view mirror, correct CJ3A passenger windshield wiper, correct full-back rear seat and a factory accessory Pintle Hook. Also included with the Willys is the Witco black vinyl soft top. There was a Koenig hard top on the Jeep but I have removed it and started repairing the mounting holes. Also I have repaired the windshield frame vent and re-sprayed it black. I have put roughly 4000 miles on it while I have owned it. I have gone through the Willys and serviced everything.

-install vintage Harrison Heater in excellent original condition
-new fan belt
-new reproduction wiring harness from Walck’s
-new STA Super Traxion 6.50-16 tires and tubes(5)
-Willys includes original jack and lug wrench

The Willys runs and drive wonderfully. I regularly drive it to work and around town. It is very reliable and starts easily every time. The Jeep still has a 6 volt electrical system. When servicing the Jeep I found the majority of the components to be original, and in excellent condition showing no signs of abuse. This Willys is a wonderful survivor and has tons of character and would be very enjoyable to preserve. However if you wanted to restore this Jeep it would be a very easy restoration and you will have an excellent show quality Willys when done. I enjoy the Jeep and would like to keep it but I want to get a Willys Wagon or Truck, so this has to go to make some room.
