UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4900
“Up for sale again, almost decided to keep it but now circumstances have changed. It’s a 1959 Willys with a 192 Perkins Diesel motor(RARE). Motor does smoke and needs a tune up but it does run. Drive train needs work as it will not shift into high range. Has tow bar and tows very well, body in great condition paint is in good shape. Please email with any questions and if you leave a phone number I will get back in touch with you. I’m sorry I can’t leave a phone number, too many scammers. $4900 FIRM”
anybody driven a jeep with the Perkins engine, wonder what performance is like compared to gas F-head.
Mitch owns several different types of jeeps, including a CJ-6 with a Perkins, so he’s got a good vantage point to describe the difference. After buying and getting it running again, he gave the CJ-6 a good test over a local mountain pass trail (http://www.ewillys.com/2013/11/05/mitchs-cj-6-diesel-tackles-the-naches-pass/). He said even with 3:73 gearing and a T-90 the motor was surprisingly torquey. The downside was the diesel fumes.
That one is definitely not a factory perkins. All sorts of things don’t add up not to mention the fact that it’s too early to be factory. That said, a factory perkins is quite peppy but will run out of steam pretty quickly. To say the top of the RPM range is 3000 is probably pushing it and shortening the life of the engine. I’m still driving it, but not alot as the fumes have been very difficult to track down as well as finding parts for the Perkins.
