So I’ve often wondered… Is is sacrilege to repaint a jeep that’s painted army green if it’s really not a true military willys? I think not, but thoughts on that?

Hmmm … sacrilege … my thoughts are, if you own the vehicle you can do what you want. That’s what ‘ownership’ is all about. I would hope that an owner would choose not to repaint (or modify for that matter) a super-stock jeep of any flavor that was in original, solid, good condition.

More specific to your question, because some civilian jeeps were used in military service it’s worth investigating the history of the jeep to determine if it was used in the military and whether it was painted OD green or not. Most likely, it wasn’t, but you never know.

That’s a good point. I love the idea of researching the history of the vehicle and staying true to the original.
