UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
Wayne points out that the skid plate was optional. This is one nice Renegade (though an imperfect restoration to stock). My only question about this is the lack of the protective skid plate underneath the gas tank that bolts between the back of the frame and the cross member in front of the tank (something my 1973 CJ-5 had). (here’s a stainless steel version of what I mean)
“This week Canyon State Classics brings to market an awesome example of a 1974 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade in stunning condition inside and out. This Jeep was bought brand new at Galloway Motors on October 3rd, 1973 by Mr. Thomas Payne of Tucson. This Jeep has Southwest desert area its whole life and is completely solid and rust-free, and still retains its all original steel tub with no patch work. This little CJ has just come out of the collection of a 35 year Jeep dealer and expert who just recently completed a full frame off restoration on this gorgeous CJ-5. He stated that he believes the miles are original at under 40k, as he knows the Jeep was off the road for the better part of 25 years before the restoration. The vehicle has been carefully restored to like new condition!”
The skid plate was optional. I don’t how many of those dam things I installed when I worked at AMC in Phoenix.
I was not aware they did a no tailgate model in 1974. I was thinking that was later.
This ain’t your moms Renegade
Nice old Jeep. Even if it’s not 100%, it’s still really cool to see.
Bob: yep. Dad had that same body.
Wayne: I had no idea the skid plate was optional. That just seems like a must have to me.
The T-18 did not come stock with the V-8. A T-15 was standard.
I bought a new blue with black emblems, ’74 Renegade, 304 3-speed, there was no tail gate on the Renegade, I believe the sticker price was right around $5500. I had a $1600 credit for my trade, a ’69 Camaro Z/28. My brother still has the Jeep, I’m sure someone is taking care of my Z/28, which is now probably worth 10x or more of what I paid for the Renegade. I should have kept them both. In fact my Dad almost went back to the dealer to buy back the Z/28 for himself. He obviously enjoyed speed more than off-roading!
Back then your jeep came without a top without a radio, roll bars, ETC. Everything was extra. BTW I don’t think that is a stock gas tank—(I could be wrong) but it seems to me i remember a slanted gas tank.
The rear panel is incorrect. Something missing. Anybody notice???
