This jeep was featured yesterday at Road & Track, because it is supposedly a one-owner jeep with only 35k miles. It’s being sold by an outfit that seems to specialize in auto sales out of the Boise area. Given they specialize in auto sales, and given it’s a one owner vehicle, I would think they’d get the VIN number at least close. Instead, they have a strange VIN of 8804255829, which means a person probably couldn’t track the history of the jeep if they wanted. It’s hard for me to believe there isn’t a VIN plate still on this jeep (if it truly is an unmolested, original jeep). After all, it looks like the original gusset is still there. I can’t help think I’ve seen this jeep before, especially the oddly shaped (bent) passenger side fender. Anyone else have thoughts?
Here’s an example of a CJ-3B the same seller tried to sell on ebay with “original matching numbers”, but with an incorrect VIN of 34501. That VIN (which is missing the prefix of 57348) would be for a 1957. You’ll note the speedometer is a post 55 unit as well. The same cutesy tools are attached to the sides like they did with the 2A below.”
Its a nice looking jeep but far from unmolested. the rear bumper sure aint original, and its got some grab handles put in some odd places. i seriously doubt the paint is original. the hood blocks have been replaced with some weird looking brackets the front marker lights sure arent original for a 47. its got no windshield wipers. the lights in the rear match the ones in the front. its a nice looking jeep but looks to have been completely rebuilt to me and not correctly if youre looking for a unmolested one owner jeep. my 2a i got in missouri is a lot more original than this jeep and its probably a purists nightmare. i also agree about that fender, reminds of another jeep. alot.

Unmolested……as long as you ignore the bumpers made out of C Channel, the huge holes cut in the tail panel for trailer lights from the 80’s, the incorrect marker lights, the nonoriginal color and red painted lettering…The missing keyed coil, the incorrect engine compartment items, etc, etc..and the added supposed military stuff…(What army used a pickaxe like that?)
I guess if you say it is a one owner original even if the owner was Bubba it doesn’t matter just how poor the restoration was. 35,000 miles? On that speedometer maybe.
Granted it is a nice looking Jeep. But I am so bothered by the two different taillights.
I love the “equipped with military issue first aid kit” as a selling point. Past or present it’s either uselessly out of date or extremely basic and readily available. Cool color scheme though.
Even the spark plugs have been painted..and how about those shackles? It must be near by but it is not advertised locally….
The last photo on here has a few odd things. First off the body line on the driver’s side looks to be at an odd angle. Plus there seems to be bend lines on each of the panels on either side of the tailgate. On the passenger side, just under the top bracket, there are three little marks, look like bolt heads maybe?
