We hit our goal on Monday of seeing three car museums in Indiana and enjoying lunch with Steve at an old fashioned diner called Schoops. The downside was . . . when we tried to leave Indiana, we encountered road construction and blocked traffic (I-80 westbound was standstill). What should have taken an hour and a half took three hours. We went right to bed and just woke up a little bit ago. So, there will likely be no updates today.
However, I do have this neat photo Randy shared. The wagon below may have been one of several (exactly how many we haven’t determined) built by Kaiser for touring Hawaii. Note the four doors, extended bodies, and sun roofs.
I had lunch with my sister at schoops in munster a week ago. not unitl i was half way done with my burger did i realize we were seated at the same booth my dad and i frequented 40 years ago. the place was virtually unchanged.
I’m waiting for your escape from Chicago post.
Mark: yes, that was equally long and difficult! Traffic jams were followed by forty miles of construction on I-90. We are cruising west from Madison right now. Nice to be free of traffic (for now). We *should* be free of traffic and toll roads for the remainder of the trip.
Hugh: Nice memory 🙂
dave, which schoops did you go to? the one in munster i believe is the original store from the 50’s. we used to go there in the 70’s. there are several more in northwest indiana now.
Hugh: Warsaw
Mark … the more I think about it, the more it was less about escaping Indiana. The problem was entering Chicago. I was looking at the wrong side of the coin.
The Schoops we went to was in Warsaw, indiana
