   This club is still around. I believe they are members of the PNW4WDA. I can look them up tonight after work to find out for sure. This plaque would be great to add to the PNW4WDA archive.

   Thanks Marty. The website I ran across suggested the club no longer existed, but that the site could have been wrong. Searches for “Salem jeep club” returned the Salem Jeepers, which is a recently formed club. I like the plaque.

   my name is Greg Peters, President of the Salem Jeep Club. The Salem Jeep Club was started in 1964, and joined the Pacific Northwest Four Wheel Drive Association in 1965, and are still members to this day. Our club at this time has four member families. In our heyday when everyone was racing, we were in excess of thirty families. At this time, we are somewhat active in fighting land closures, and “anti-access” groups. The club has participated for many years in PNW activities. The placque should have a stamped number on it somewhere, thereby identifying the club member it was assigned to. This placque was supposed to be returned to the Salem Jeep Club upon termination of membership. This is the property of the Salem Jeep Club, and should never under any circumstances be sold. I have attempted to get in touch with the seller, but to no avail. Any other questions, please email me. thank you

   Seeing that plaque has brought back some very fond memories. Our family were members of the SALEM JEEP CLUB from the 60’s to my dads passing in the mid 90’s. Memories of Christmas tree runs above Detroit Lake, SOLVE litter patrols along North Fork, Christmas parties in Stayton, many trips to Sand Lake, I could go on and on. The week end mud races were always my favorite, that and the sand drags. I do believe there are some very rare plaques out there made out of brass. I remember my older brother casting them in the mid 70’s in shop class in school. I’m not sure how many were made but I know my dad had one.

   My dad and our family were charter members of the Salem Jeep Club. I remember going to meetings in Taggesell Pontiac’s Shop on Broadway The mechanic I remember dad talking to or about all the time was a guy named Dallas. I am currently working on Chug a Lug dads 48 CJ2A in an attempt to return it to the road. Its not been driven since Sept of 1976 when I went off to College. I still have the embroidered Jacket patch off of moms jacket. The Dash Plaque I believe someone came out to the house one evening and picked it up. At that time the club was very active with Marion County Deputy Sheriffs Reserve and did Search and Rescue. The first outing I remember going on as a club was the Christmas Valley/Lost forest trip in 1965 (we had just bought the 65 Wagoneer from Taggesell’s) Boy did Christmas Valley look different then.
