“1946 Willys Jeep CJ2A. $10,000 OBO. Frame of rebuild. Thousands in new parts. Has PTO. 97% complete restoration. Just needs a couple small items.”
So I notice this does not have an oil filter on it. My 48’ does not either. Was it an option to have one or did people sometimes just remove them?
Hi John,
Based on what I’ve seen and read all CJ-2As had installed oil filters. Some folks argue that the nature of the design, a partial pass-through oil filter, suggests that filters weren’t necessary, especially if you change your oil often and don’t run it very often. Others have argued that removing the filter helps improve crankshaft bearing life. There are plenty of counter arguments against both of these claims.
Here’s one thread with a filter discussion: https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/oil-filter-truly-needed_topic39577_page2.html
I hope this info helps.
