Matt’s selling this stock CJ-5. He wanted to give eWillys’ readers a first shot at it (thanks Matt!). This is sold with a bill of sale only, though it does have a serial number.
“Up for sale is my 1964 CJ5. This is a very original CJ5 that still wears its original president red paint. Odometer reads 2,900 miles. This Jeep came from the family of its original owner who used it as a runabout on his farm. It does not currently run but everything is there and it should run with a bit of work. I did open up the transmission to make sure everything was okay and it was like new inside. I believe it was parked in the 80s. Unfortunately it was parked in a damp part of the barn so the tub has a decent amount of rust. Front floors are completely rotted out including the toolbox floor. Rear floor and wheel wells have a few bad spots but are usable.
The rest of the jeep is in pretty good shape and the front fenders, hood, grille and windshield are very nice. Tailgate is nice too and still has the original 4 wheel drive stencil on it. Frame looks to be solid with just a little rot in the rear crossmember/bumper. 60/40 bench seat with original fabric. Tailgate chain covers are still intact. Really a time capsule of a CJ5. Nothing has been cut up or modified. This Jeep is perfect for someone who loves patina/original paint survivors and is willing to go through it mechanically, put some new front floors in it and enjoy it just the way it is. That was my plan but I just don’t have the time. Asking $4500. Sold with a bill of sale only. It does have a serial number. Located in Connecticut. Thank you”
Thank you for posting Dave! Interested parties can reach me at eight six zero – three zero four- three six three nine. Thank you!
Nice jeep, was the bench seat available as an option other than the Tuxedo models. I wonder why the transfer case lever is so long and if it is related to the bench seat?
I don’t know when, for what models, or for how long, but at some point the longer shifter was installed. Maybe someone has added info about this in a web forum.
In 2005, Bob Westerman wrote: “”The shape of the transmission shift lever was changed and the length was increased one inch on the transmission and five inches on the transfer case to provide easier shifting and better clearances on the Model CJ-3A transmission beginning with Vehicle Serial No. 18829” and “in production on the transfer case beginning with Model CJ-3A Serial No. 21712″ according to Service Bulletin 49-34. Both serial numbers are early in the 1949 model year” https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/shift-lever-lengths_topic8140.html
Whether there were additional differences over the years I couldn’t say.
