“Barn find, Vintage, 1953, Navy, Marine Corp, M38A1 military jeep
Many years of dry storage
Original MD motor removed, but complete, spins free, very minimal cylinder wear, unsure of reason it was pulled
Bill of sale only
Original vin tags still in place
Make an offer, it could be yours”
It looks to be in decent shape, but you don’t learn much from the photos. Dark and up against a wall.
Doesn’t exactly make me warm and fuzzy for it.
Looks like it has an early battery box cover.
Also the Navy “Bureau of ships” placard is interesting.
Is that normal on USMC Jeeps?
Among the photos on the original Craigslist listing is a shot of Hagerty insurance values…it says M38A1s are worth:
#1 condition (Excellent) $42,300; #2 (Very good) $32,300; #3 (average cond.) $14,600, #4 (fair) $8,400.
Those prices seem awfully high.
